Just had LSH 8/29/07

For the last month, I have found valuable information from this site but never took the time to actually register. However, now that I've had my surgery (three days ago), I decided it was time to join so that I can share my experience with others who might be preparing for the same procedure. It will also be good to hear from others who can tell me what more I can expect over the next few days and weeks.

My surgery began at 8:30 a.m. and I was wide awake in recovery by 10:45 a.m. I had no pain at all and by 5:00 p.m. that evening, I was walking to the restroom with no problem and still no pain. I went home the very next morning and though I feel good, I've decided to take it easy for as long as necessary. I was given no stiches for my three small external incisions, however, they are secured with a glue solution. I did have a tiny pin hole opening the day I came home and saw a little bit of blood but the doctor had me tape gauze over it and it has been fine. My stomach is still pretty swollen but I understand that this is to be expected. I also noticed that my stream of urination seemed slow and I sometimes had to work at emptying my bladder but it has gotten better with ever day. The other thing I noticed is that my stomach didn't feel so well after I ate dinner yesterday afternoon but felt better again once I had a BM. So, now, I realize eating small meals is a much better idea.

I think that's it for now but I'm just so happy to be having only a little soreness and no need to be on pain medication. Additionally, I want to say how thankful I am for www.hystersisters.com!

Thank you, Rita. I still have no pain and very little soreness, but the swelling is still in place. It seems that it is most noticeable above my left and largest incision but I'm hoping this will diminish in time. It does seem to go down when I'm up walking around or sitting for a while but then tends to swell more overnight when I'm lying down. I'm guessing this is will go away with time but I do see my doctor on Thursday for my first post-op appointment and will ask. Also, the left incision is slightly higher (not by much) than my incision on the right, so I wondered if anyone else noticed the same thing. Thanks again.

i'm so glad youre feeling so well. i didnt have a lot of post op swelling (the entire belly) but i did have an area to the right of my belly button that stayed swollen for awhile. i thought it was a hernia but it wasnt. it took weeks to go down, but it eventually did. i hope your recovery continues to do smoothly

Thanks so much for the reply. My swelling sounds similar, execept it's to the left of my belly button and just above the left incision. But since there's no pain or redness, I think it's probably okay. I was just wondering and will keep everyone updated.

Hi KMarie829,

Best wishes with your recovery.

I also had a LSH. My largest incision was also on my left side. From reading LSH replies on Hyster Sisters, it seems that more work is done through one of the two hip incisions and that can sometimes cause swelling in the incision that is larger. I agree with Dressedupinblue and the swelling should go down with time.

My larger incision is also my left one....although I also had them remove a mole at the same spot. I figured, as long as they were there, I might as well have it removed.

I did have a stich abcess on that side. A week of antibiotics and it cleared up.

Hi KMarie:

I had LSH the day after you. My largest incision is on the right side and that is where I have the most pain. I wonder if it is the doctor's choice? Mine apparently does things differently... the nurse told me he's the only doc who insists the IV go in the right arm.

I appear to have been stitched up with nylon thread. I'm guessing it might be removed at my post-op on Thursday but am not sure.

Hello,

Yes, I think each dr must be different. My I.V. was in the left arm and I hear the largest incision is where the most work was done (where they took the piece of uterus out). I visit my dr on Thursday as well and will make sure to post and update.
