5 days and still gas pain and nausea

hi,

I had a TVH on 11/13 and I'm still having horrible gas pains and nausea. I've had bm's since the 2nd day post op...but I"m just miserable. I've been taking gas-x and eating "light" food but still feel awful.

I've got a call into my doc but would appreciate any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 5 days and still gas pain and nausea

Unfortunately, the gas pain can last for a few weeks. I used gas-x, drank peppermint tea throughout the day and still had it. I found that moving around helped more than anything. The gas might be causing the nausea too but if you're taking any pain meds, that might be contributing. Hang in there. It really does get better with time.

Re: 5 days and still gas pain and nausea

Hi! Well I understand that all to well! Hang in there it does get better, I was having a great deal of pain and pressure and I would lay over the edge of my bed with a pillow between my stomach and the bed, it helped to get the gas out. Its a good thing you are able to have BM's! My thoughts are with you!

Gas pain can last for sometime (about 2 weeks). Are you walking? I know after I walked it helped A LOT. Even though GasX did not do much for me I still took it after meals just in case that one time it would do it's trick.

Good luck.

Cathy,

thanks for the input. I'm only on motrin and thought that might be contributing to the situation. I think moving around more might help but there's not much to do not working. My husband is doing everything...which is nice....I've been able to sit/lay and read quite a bit.

Not happy that this could last weeks......but thanks for the honesty.

hugs....

Debi

Re: 5 days and still gas pain and nausea

Hi Debi,

I had a TVH on 11/11 so I am one week post op today and I have to say that I feel worse today than I've felt since I got home. I've been up moving around and it has helped but I just feel crappy (excuse the language) today!! I haven't had much pain to deal with at all but today I'm so uncomfortable. I'm thinking of taking a pain pill and going back to bed for a while.

Hopefully, we'll both feel better soon!

<<HUGS>>

Joy, I'm right there with you....still not feeling great. I thought I'd feel a lot better then I do but I don't.....but my husband is surprised at how well I'm doing so I guess it's all perspective.

Take a nap and hopefully you'll feel better soon too.....

Re: 5 days and still gas pain and nausea

Hey Debi -
Nice to see you on this side of the castle!

I walk around the house every few hours and that seems to help the best, nurses told me to lay on my left side to help pass gas. I'm also drinking lots of water (60 oz per day) and eating fresh fruits. I take a GasX at bed time. I've noticed that my nausea is eased when I take a pain pill which seems contradictary to me, but I've had pelvic pain for so long I'm not sure I recognize pain from the incision LOL!

No carbonated drinks and better to drink from a glass than through a straw.

Good luck!

Thanks...it's good to be on this side (I think). I will start drinking more water...I've been drinking from a straw but will stop that if it might be contributing to the situation.

I have no incision....I had a vaginal hyst...but I'm having pelvic pain and I"m not sure if it is procedure related or gas related.

Thanks for the continued support on "this side" ...sure is nice to have all of you to come home too!!

Hugs all around.

Re: 5 days and still gas pain and nausea

One more thing - I still use my small pillow pressed into my abdomen when I walk since it's more comfortable. In fact, I usually have it in my lap even when laying down - maybe the frequent constant pressure is helping my gas issues to be fairly manageable .... worth a try!
