Finally home 5 days post hysterectomy - comfort and binder suggestions
I'm finally home. Sunday I was released from the hospital and 5 hours later I was admitted. I had a fever of 102. My WBC was elevated my RBC was low I had a UTI and was given 3 different IV antibiotics for over 24 hours. Potassium was low too. I am now home resting in my own bed but suffering from terrible gas pain any suggestions have you tried warm compresses . Any suggestions on how to make myself more comfortable would really be appreciated. Also wondering how many have use the binder for your belly and what is exact purpose. It seems to look uncomfortable. I would love any suggestions. Thank you

Re: Finally home.
Good to hear you are home and seem to be on the road to recovery now.
I did not use a binder, so can't tell you how comfortable they are. Every one is different. I have read here that you are not to sleep in them. Many doctors do not encourage them because women will tend to wear them to much allowing the abdominal muscles to get weaker putting more strain on the back. I have read that yoga pants work well.
I can't give suggestion for the abdominal surgery as I had robotic. I do know I held my stomach when getting up and walking (like pregnant women do). Having a wall, chair or something sturdy next to you to grab when getting up helps a lot. Heating pad on the stomach, even back may help with the gas. Many use GasX too. Walking will help move it along. Sometime warm drinks will help push it through. When you can laying on your left side might help.
