Remove 15 week fibroid via laparoscopy?

I have gotten two opinions on the removal of my 15 week fibroid that's single and in the top muscle of my uterus. The more experienced doctor said he could remove it laparoscopically. The resident said said she couldn't remove it laparoscopically because the size and shape would interfere with her view of what she was doing.

I now have something of a suspicion that the first doctor was telling me what I wanted to hear and once I was under might have to revert to a full belly operation. Am I being paranoid? Are there others here who have had a single fibroid of that size removed laparoscopically?

I'm wanting to avoid the more invasive surgery because that challenge to my immune system will result in a resurgence of my lyme disease (and also because I can't afford to be out of work that long). I'm also starting to look into embolization although neither of the doctors mentioned it. The resident was a bit dumb and could only say that it's usually done for people with severe bleeding (as though no other reason was valid). I forgot to ask the more experienced doctor and am going to attempt a follow up question. However, I feel like it bears keeping in mind that doctors have something to sell--their services--and may be less inclined to recommend a procedure that doesn't involve their services.

Sorry to blather on. Thanks for sharing any experiences you have had.

Re: 15 week laparoscopy?

I was told by my 1st Dr. that a hysterectomy was my only option. I got a second opinion and will now be having Laparoscopic, hysteroscopic surgery for 2 very large and some smaller ones. I did a goggle search for fibroid specialist in my region and that's exactly what I found! Good luck!

Re: 15 week laparoscopy?

A good place to look for options for fibroids is uterinefibroids - there is great information, and a lot of new options for shrinking fibroids and making them easier to deal with.
