One week out...panic starting

I am scheduled for LSH on February 12. In the last few days, I have been second guessing this procedure. I am anxious that recovery may take longer than I hope. I am very excited to know I will have no more cycles. I was told I would be able to come home on the same day but from what I have been reading it doesn't seem like that is the norm.

One week out...panic starting

Hi Lisa -

It is normal to worry in the week leading up. I was scared to death! Look at my screen name! If I could change it, it would be HysterSure35! Waiting is the Hardest Part...I am 26 days post-op from an LSH and I am 100% sure that I made the best decision EVER!

My Dr. normally does this procedure as outpatient. I was required to stay overnight because of insurance. Honestly, I would have preferred to be at home following the procedure.

The hospital was noisy. The day nurses were inattentive, would have been better off at home. The night nurses were too attentive...they woke me every 2 hours for vitals and to ask how I was sleepy...haha

After a while, my Dr. ordered me to do some walking. For whatever reason, I was placed on the pediatric ward and I worried of sickness as I walked the halls...again, better off at home. I remember that I was in recovery for over 2 hours waiting for a room. There was some confusion about me staying since my Dr. does not order it unless insurance requires.

In my experience, I was surprised at how quickly I recovered. I reflect back sometimes and it is amazing. Week one, I was afraid of anyone coming near my belly, afraid of getting in the bed, afraid that I would never be able to bend down far enough to shave my legs again, afraid that I would never be able to stand or sit for any given period of time again, afraid that I would never be able to function without the pain meds. All of that is better now.

While I have resumed most activities, I still take it easy and listen to my body. I am currently just on half-days at work and have been since week 2. I plan to resume full-time on Friday.

Waiting is the Hardest Part. Best wishes to you on the 12th.

Second guessing and being anxious and scared is normal. I was going nuts leading up to surgery but I would do it all over again. Waiting is the hardest part. As for going home the same day I did. Now granted my doc wanted me to stay 24 hours but I got her to let me go home. I can rest better being at home than sitting in the hospital worrying if kids are being taken care of. Best wishes to you hun. hugs.

When I first joined this website I was scared, I read these post, 2hrs at a time, sometimes twice a day. I always walked away with good thoughts about my future and this surgery... I am no longer scared, but now empowered...

One week out...panic starting

I'm on Feb 11, and my dr said I am spending the night. But I am actually relieved as I don't think I can handle my 4 and 6 yr olds climbing in bed with me the first night! Have had other lap procedures though and have come home same day, so it just depends on the dr and insurance.

Hi Lisa...of course you are nervous!! It'd be strange if you weren't. Although relatively new, the laproscopic procedures have been around since about 1989. So there's lots of experienced surgeons around doing it this way. It is considered "minimally invasive" and it really is. Without that big old abdominal incision, everything can heal so much faster and leave you less susceptible to infection and other complications.

My procedure will also be done an outpatient basis too. At first I thought it was strange, but from everything I've read on it, it's not a bad thing. I have also read LOTS of stories of women who bounce back so quickly it's unbelievable. Like driving 2 days later, etc.

Let's hope that we all recovery quickly!!
