6 months post op. Any runners out there

I started running about 2 months after surgery. My biggest issue was that I was having problems with stress incontinence when I ran. My cure for it was not to drink anything for a least 2 hours before running. When I went to my 3 month follow up visit, I mentioned this to the doctor wondering if I would eventually need a bladder sling. She told me that she has another patient who wears a tampon when she runs and suggested I try it. Now I thought I would never see tampons again so I wasn't too excited about trying it. So the stress incontinence really became annoying and I decided to try the tampon thing. To my surprise it totally works. I thought I would share this with all of you runners out there who may have the same problem. I'm thinking this would work for all high impact execise. Good luck ladies, try it out, I have had great success.

Interesting. I would guess the pressure is just the bit needed to hold the urethra closed. So I would use my Diva Cup - no waste & no fibers or bleach. Glad it's working for you!

Interesting...i actually had to have the bladder sling and TVT for prolapse...never had any incontinence but my question is how bad is high impact exercise on causing things to re-prolapse in the long term. I think I'll post that on the boards and see if anyone has experienced that. Thanks for the info..

kl319 - someone else posted somewhere that her doc told her to avoid high-impact exercise other than running and heavy lifting if she wanted her surgery to last as long as possible. She had bladder sling and prolapse issues too.

ok so I had to research a little to find out what a Diva Cup was. I suspect that it would do the same thing and I like the idea that it is all natural. Can you tell me where you buy one of these? I would be interested to see if it works.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to keep it in mind. It's only been 3 weeks since my surgery (TAH/BSO) and I don't plan to resume my classes at the gym for another 4 weeks (I teach fitness classes, mostly step and strength), and although I've never had any stress incontinence or bladder issues you never know when a tip like this might come in handy!

harrli - I bought mine online. You can also get this or other cups like Moon Cup, etc. (they fit differently depending on childbirth etc.) at places like some health food stores.
