Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

Hi. This is day 12 post-op. Many of my Steri-Strips have peeled halfway off. Did you leave yours on? Thanks.

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

Mine never peeled, but my doctor told me when she put them on to just leave them on till they fell off, even if they peeled.
But since mine never did peel, she told me to take them off in the shower 17 days post-op.
If your not sure, a call to the doctor is the best idea though!

Also, another thing my doctor told me when she put them on was that I should use a blow dryer on the cool setting after each shower so that they wouldn't peel. So I guess it really worked, because mine never did!

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

I've only has steri strips when I had my carpal tunnel releases done. I was told to trim the peeling pieces back and let them come off on their own. Nothing in your discharge instructions?

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

My strips fell off by themselves eventually and I tried to put them back in place if they started to peel. My doctor told me to cover then with plastic while in the shower but not to worry when they fell off.

Double checking instructions with your doctor is the safest bet.
Good luck healing to all.

The doctor just told me to let them fall off and don't replace them.

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

My doctor told me to leave them for two weeks and then to start rolling them. They've peeled almost to where the incisions are, but I'm afraid to move them any more. Unless they fall off on their own I'm leaving them until my 4 week appt.

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

My doctor removed the steri strips at day 12. She pulled them off and the area was sore for a day.

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

I had a TAH on 4/24 and the dr removed my staples on 4/30 and applied steri strips. The dr removed my steri strips nine days later and they were not peeling up at all. I am pretty numb at my incision so I didn't feel any increase in pain during the removal or afterwards. Good luck!

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

My told me I could removed my steric strips one week after they were put one which would have been tonight but they come off saturday because of a trip to the we and an ultrasound. The gel made them come off they would not stay on .I think it all depends on the doctor but my incision is fully closed.

Re: Remove peeling Steri-Strips?

My doctor told me to take them off at the 2nd week mark. I had some at my bikini line and was so scared they were going to pull the hair out but they came off very easy. I was very sore and tender for a few days after. Call your doctor to be on the safe side.
