TAH - what's with all these tears?

I am only four days post-op after TAH and can't stop bawling. Little hot flashes are dogging me too. I've been on bio-identical hormones for a year and did very well for six months, but then heavy irregular bleeding re-commenced, so here I am, so I will no longer be at the mercy of this thing.
I don't know what I'll do to adjust the hormone dosage - I've been taking tri-est and progesterone creams. Are these tears common?

Re: TAH - what's with all these tears?

Yes, crazy emotions are all part of the normal post-operative period. I found the first couple of weeks were the worst. After that gradual improvement. If you're not feeling better emotionally by the time you hit the 6 weekmark, it is probably worth asking your doctor about it.

They come out of no where don't they. It's a little crazy for a couple of weeks. I would cry for no reason and go straight into almost uncontrolable laughter. Back and forth it was crazy. And I have my ovaries!!

You are definantley not alone.

Good luck to you, wishing a speedy uneventfull recovery.

Re: TAH - what's with all these tears?

I too was having crying spells plus severe hot flashes. At my 1 week check up my Dr started me on Evamist 2 sprays per day, haven't had a hot flash or crying spell since. I hope you find some relief soon!

Old Writer...I'm sorry about how you're feeling!! The tears are totally normal, but please talk to your doctor about the HRT.

Lovelylady...You can do it! I found that just going with the crying was the best way to handle the emotional rollercoaster. I just kept an extra box of tissue nearby and then just let people that were around me know not to worry about it if I in the middle of the conversation. It's hard, I know, but believe me it does get better with time. I started feeling better around week 5. Let your know how you're feeling next time you see him/her.

Re: TAH - what's with all these tears?

Oh, I am so thankful to find this! I am only 2 days out and found myself feeling so weepy today I, too, kept my ovaries! But the tears sure caught me off guard. I had friends say it was a mix of the meds, hormones, and even the loss. I mean, I was done having babies, and had risk of cervical cancer so we chose to have my uterus and cervix removed, been talking about it for months, so the surgery was no surprise. But the emotions sure are!
