To all my sister's preparing for surgery. I admit I was super nervous. I don't have a week to prepare, I had 2 days and did exactly as Hystersister recommended. I have my house cleaned, made sure my health directive was in order, went grocery shopping so my husband and daughter were taken care of, paid my bills, had my bed and couch all set up, packed my bag with absolutely amazingly, comfy, plush pajamas and night gown. I put my hair in braids, grabbed my Bible and I was off. If you follow the directions given my your doctors and nurses YOU SHOULD BE OK. I thought of it as having a baby. You must get a up, you must have a bowel movement, you need to drink plenty of fluids (remember to to drink a Gatorade to assist with electrolytes after surgery) first couple days post op eat soft foods and take stool softners as directed. Your BM will come DO NOT FORSE STRAIN OR PUSH, it will happen DRINK seltzer water or gas x. My experience, the pain from the gas was the worse. A must (WEAR A TUMMY BINDER) they really do help.

I am 45 y/o and day 14 post op, pretty much no bleeding, no gas, BMs are reg, I am up doing light housework, light laundry, running errands with my husband, eating & drinking well, I use the heating pad for my tummy & lower back, and I rest when I am tired. Things I am NOT doing - lifting anything over 10 lbs. No Intercourse, NO driving, NO strenuous anything. I am taking my time when I usually rush.

This is the best advice, I love the Hystersister website their pre-op and post-op suggestions, advice, and comments really help and most of all makes you feel like you are not alone. GOD BLESS ALL MY SISTER'S pre & post op with speedy and safe recovery.
