I am up soon and have ??s
Hi,
Well, yesterday I called my doc who was back in town and he asked a couple of questions. Then he agreed to set up the surgery. Yay!! I am really so excited to get this done finally. Every time I start to worry about going through surgery or start to feel bad about what DH and I are missing out on this summer and missing a semester of school, I think about what the next year's going to be like if it doesn't change and I get really motivated to get the surgery done.
I have the appointment to set up a surgery date on Monday the 20th I was just wondering how long the wait is from the set-up-the-surgery-date appointment to the surgery date, on average. I realize it will vary with how busy my docs/hospital are, I was just looking for a quick informal survey if I can expect it to be days, weeks, or months. (Can you tell I'm not very patient!)
Also, I am a regular blood/plasma/platelet donor and wonder if anyone donated blood for themselves for surgery. If so, how long between the donation and the surgery was required, how many pints you donated, and did you use the blood? That is assuming any of us has enough iron to donate! I was switched from whole blood donations to plasma donations because my iron was frequently too low for whole blood donation.
Any other advice? I know, I know, read the site! I have been and it is very helpful.
I'll post again after my appointment.
Thanks!
Katie (excited)

wait
Hi,
I only had to wait about 2 weeks. The week before the surgery I went back to the Dr to watch a video (about the surgery) and ask questions. After the Dr I went to the hospital for pre op blood work, ekg, & chest x-ray. Had surgery the next week.
Good Luck
Tammy

I am up soon and have ??s
I had to wait almost 2 months. From the time they told me I needed the LAVH and bladder sling, they also had to coordinate the GYN's schedule with the urologist's. They originally gave me a date of 7/7, but I will be on vacation, so the soonest after that was the 21st of July.
The surgical scheduler told me that the GYN was scheduling and booked for 5 weeks, so even if I was to not have the uro involved, I would have had to wait at least 5 weeks.
I would have rather had it done sooner, the waiting is killing me!!
I hope you get a date soon!!

I am up soon and have ??s
Hi, I had a 3 week wait after my surgery was set up. I could have gone in a bit sooner but that's what MY schedule allowed. I had an event that I didn't want to miss
I couldn't donate my own blood as I was slightly anemic and had also had another ( minor) recent surgery. Maybe your dr can answer that for you

Hi Katie,
I had to wait 4 weeks the first time I had surgery scheduled - then at the pre-op the doctor basically booted me to a specialist - After seeing the specialist when the scheduler called me it was a little over 6 week wait - ugh - I have basically been ready since the 1st of April when the first surgery was set up. Hope you have a quick wait - this is very nerve wracking. Best Wishes.

I am up soon and have ??s
Hey Katie,
Knew is was coming since Dec. (orig. they wanted to schedule it for Dec. 26th). I insisted on seeing a uro, so once I got to see him, gyn. and uro coordinated schedules and I've been hanging since the schedule date in Mar. all the way to the end of this month. I think I've been through every range of emotion (some more than others) and God help anyone who cancles it . Sometimes I get so fed up I feel I could just do it myself!
I think this time-line is about the worst case scenario, usually it seems they do it within about a month...
Good luck

I am up soon and have ??s
I had a 3 week wait after the surgery date was setup. It was long enough for me to get prepared for the surgery and time out of work, but short enough that I didn't have time to dwell on it.
I also regularly donate blood and am sorry I didn't think about it before hand. As it turned out, there were complications getting my uterus out and I lost blood so I needed 2 units of packed cells transfused during the surgery. Though there haven't been any issues, I would have prefered my own blood.

Roo, what is SPARK?
Hi Roo,
On your closing signature you have SPARK listed. I'm clueless! What is that?
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Katie;
I had to wait 7 weeks for my surgery. I thought it would never come. I donate too. My dr. said it was rare to need blood for my type of surgery so I did not bank it. There was a large area that was adhered that was not expected though. I lost 700cc and did not get it replaced. Just call the blod bank if you are thinking about it. They usually need 10 days to process it. It is kind of odd-you just want them to hold onto it !
