Symptoms from Depo shot, what do I do?

As our last ditch effort to control my periods my doctor gave me in the depo shot in May. Starting about 2 weeks after the shot i started having hot flashes, joint pain, anxiety.

I was due for my shot on Aug 1 and obviously I did not take the shot, my whole body HURTS even my hair hurts. I can't sleep for the pain Anyone have any tips for how to counter this? My doctor offered pain killers and anxiety meds but I need to function

I'm hoping the hysterectomy helps but I'm not sure it will since this is hormone related to that horrific shot.

Hi mrserinv -

I am sorry you are going through all of this. Normally, I would tell you to call your doctor, but it sounds as if you already have and did not get much help.

Hopefully women who have experience with this will see this post and respond.

Hi! Sorry to hear you are having a rough time of things before your surgery. I hope your symptoms ease as the days beyond the 3 month effect of your shot pass. If you are not having your ovaries removed in addition to the hysterectomy your hormone levels should right themselves when all the effects of your shot have worn off. I use vitamin and mineral supplements to help support my hormonal balance, and have found magnesium to reduce my joint pains.

Re: Symptoms from Depo shot, what do I do?

I wish I had some advice I'm currently waiting for the depo shot to get out of my body. I read somewhere and I figured based on some information that I read that I will have to wait the same amount of months that I was taking the shot for depo shot (Lupron for me) to leave my body. So I started in Sept and my last shot was in March of this year so thats 7 months. Even thought my doctor said it should be three months from the date of my last shot in March but I'm beliving that one bit. I just want to stop sweating, not have any hot flashes, and the ability to start saying what I mean. The Lupron shot served its purpose for me and that was to completely stop my blood flow. Sighs...

Hi! Have you considered trying one of natural products available for symptoms of menopause to counteract the lingering effects of progesterone? There are herbal products that could be worth investigating
