two days to go

Well I only have two more days to go and I can't tell if I'm nervous or exicted. Today is my last day of work, and I'm going home to make lots of soup for next week, just found out that we are getting my boyfriends two girls next weekend for the summer(one month early) they are 4 and 7 and my sonis 3 1/2. The oldest one's birthday is the 1st and I will still be in the hospital, so she wants to have her party on the 8th, if I take it real easy and don't do much, will I be able to enjoy it with her?

Hi, Zott! I, for one, was not ready for socializing at one week post op. I didn't blow dry my hair or put on makeup that whole first week, and just lounged around in pjs or housedresses. At 11 days post op I got out of the house for about an hour--dh drove us to a nearby restaurant--and that was quite enough of an outing for me! If it's just family coming over to give your boyfriend's daughter a little party, you might be able to rest on a couch and watch the activities. But no way should you be doing any of the work of planning and hostessing! Maybe you could plan a party later in the month at a restaurant or children's activity place (roller rink, laser tag, etc.) where you wouldn't have to do much of the work?

The first 2 weeks post op, you should be resting with feet up, and only short easy walks taken during the day. Then you can slowly increase activities, but nothing strenuous for 4-6 weeks (no lifting, bending, heavy housework--including vacuuming, or standing on your feet for long periods of time). It's a time to let your body do it's hard work of healing all the stitched and fragile tissues. Be nice to your body! And enjoy being pampered! s and best wishes!

Dear Zott,

If there's any way that the two girls could wait and come to stay with you and their dad next month instead of now, I would strongly advise it, unless you will have some help to take care of them. Does their mother know that you have surgery scheduled?

If they must come to you early, then please let all your friends, neighbors and relatives know that you will need their assistance for a few weeks. As Ruthie said, you shouldn't be doing anything for the first couple of weeks at all.

That's a hard one Zott. I have to admit I sure would NOT of felt like having company at 1 week post op. Whatever your decision...just make sure you don't do anything but "watch" the festivities. No cleaning up afterwards...no cleaning up before...etc.etc. This is major surgery...and will take a lot out of you.

Good luck with surgery. I'll keep you in my prayers.

PS - I'm sure your little one will be happy with anything...you can always do more when you feel better.
