Spotting 1 week post hysterectomy
I am still spotting bright red after a week. Nothing more then a panty liner but been having a lot of cramping I didn't have before? I have only been up taking walks however two nights awoke coughing. Is this all normal? I would have though bleeding would have changed colors by now......

Re: Spotting 1week post surgery
Hi there! The spotting can come in a variety of colors including bright red or pinkish. As long as it is not filling a maxi pad in under an hour, it is likely okay. I had the bright red/pinkish for a little while likely because I did have some constipation putting some pressure on the cuff. Sometimes coughing can put a little pressure on the vaginal cuff area as well. Keep an eye on it. If it seems to be getting worse, to give you peace of mind you can always give your doc a call. They will know the questions to ask to determine if you need to go in. Here is a quick HS article - Spotting vs. Bleeding .
Hang in there!

Spotting 1 week post hysterectomy
The cramping could be coming from your intestinal tract. As I've seen many times in this forum, it can be rough going for the first few weeks. After it's been poked and prodded, it has to rearrange itself to fill the space left by your uterus, and deal with hormonal fluctuations - even if you kept your ovaries, they may have temporarily fallen asleep - along with the effects of the anaesthesia and pain medication. Also, if you did keep your ovaries, the intestinal tract will continue to be be stimulated by the same prostaglandins that would stimulate your period. Magnesium can help with that, and will also help to get your bowels moving, if that's an issue for you. As for the cougghing, keep a small pillow handy to hold over your belly, have small, frequent sips of water, and try warm tea with honey to soothe your throat. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Re: Spotting 1 week post hysterectomy
Hi Lisa Lulu, what did your doctor say about bleeding? Mine said that it should fade to nothing in a couple of days, but if it didn't, it stayed red or went from anything what back to red, I should give her a call.
The cramping could be swelling, I'm having the same thing in my left side mostly. I've been thinking that it's what Tiger Eye suggested, my intestines are rearranging themselves and they aren't happy.
