What kinds of vaginal leakage are normal after a hysterectomy?

I had a TLH on the 13th. Yesterday the lips of my vagina felt very itchy (I thought it could be from the pads I was using), and now tonight I'm leaking something milky in color. Could it be an infection?? Or is this normal? I don't know what to expect at this point. Thanks!

Re: What kinds of vaginal leakage are normal after a hysterectomy?

My doctor told me I could even leak a black thing. It'd be a scab from inside coming lose. I had a whitish/beige discharge for a few days (I think I was five weeks post-of, or four). It didn't last long.

It sounds gross, but you could smell it. Because they say if it has a strong, foul odour, it could be sign of infection. This is just something I've read, not something I'm sure about.

My doctor told me to worry only if I'd have lots of blood.

This are all things she said to me and I don't know if it applies to everybody.

Take care, Sister. Hugs!

Thanks so much, HA. I thought that's what my doctor said too, but I wasn't sure. Was wondering if we could get yeast infections... My mind wanders! No blood though.

Re: What kinds of vaginal leakage are normal after a hysterectomy?

We can definitely get yeast infections, especially after all the antibiotics they pump in us during/following surgery. I didn't even realize I had one but my doc suspected one at my 2 week check up and prescribed Diflucan (one pill) - I took it with lots of food and felt the minor symptoms (mild itch/mild burning on urination) go completely away by the next evening. Might be good to check with your doc, especially as you do have itching.

Thanks, Carolinagrl. It's been SO long since I had a yeast infection, but this isn't cottage-cheesy, so I have no idea what's going on, nor do I have a fever........... I might call my dr though......
