Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods after hysterectomy?
How many who kept their cervix still had "mini-periods"? I go back and forth on keeping it. My issue is bleeding all the time but it appears to be hormonal. Thanks.

Re: Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods?
I kept my cervix but not my ovaries. While I was taking cyclic hormone replacement I had what I'd call a mini period, it was just some pinkish spotting. Not enough to worry about. I too had extremely heavy bleeding pre hysterectomy.
I'm glad I kept my cervix, would make the same choice of surgery again. I wanted the quicker recovery and got it.

Re: Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods?
I struggled with what to do then I decided to take it out. Now I'm changing my mind, lol. Yes the quicker recover is what I desperately need. While I would like to never bleed again, I can handle some pink spotting every now and then instead of bleeding 3 weeks a month. Though my cycles are all over the place and I never know when what is going to happen. I hate wearing a panty liner every day 'just in case'.
Thanks though. How long were you off work? My doc does the Da Vinci.

I had the DaVinici and they took everything except my ovaries. There's a risk of getting cervical cancer if they leave in your cervix. I'm at the 6 1/2 week mark and no spotting or period since two weeks before the surgery.

Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods after hysterectomy?
No offense but this is the one reason against keeping your cervix that drives me crazy! I'm also at risk of having my appendix rupture but I didn't have them remove it while they were in there.
Some women have no choice or are very high risk so it makes sense to remove it. For women who have a choice, the decision to keep your cervix is a personal one. You do need to continue having PAP smears. Also anywhere from 5-20% of women do have mini periods. And there is no guarantee that your recovery time will be less. Every woman is different and heals differently.
Good luck with your decision and good health and recovery to you!

Re: Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods?
Thanks all. No history of cervical cancer and I don't mind have pap smears one a year, honestly, or a little light blood here and there, I just want to not bleed 2-3 weeks a month with spotting in between. Such a hard decision! I know recovery can vary...though I hope for the quickest recovery possible, I also don't want to have two procedures. I'll talk to my 2 docs I'm seeing, but any information from people who have been through it is very helpful.

Re: Keeping cervix (and ovaries) - mini periods after hysterectomy?
I'm 7 1/2 weeks post-op so it's still kind of early for me to know for sure but I'm pretty sure I had at least one mini period. Immediately after my surgery, I had no bleeding at all, just one brown spot about 3 days after. Then, at 4 weeks post-op, I had 4 days of very light brown spotting. Except for one spot on my underwear, the only time I noticed it was when I wiped after using the bathroom. I didn't need a panty liner. A couple of days ago, after intercourse, I had some red spotting, which is the first time that's happened after sex. Again, very light and no need for a liner. I'm not sure if it's a mini period or related to the sex but I'm inclined to think it's a period due to the timing being right. Spotting only lasted a day and a half. So if these are mini periods for me, they don't bother me at all. Going into surgery, I didn't know if I'd be able to keep my cervix or not but my doctor wanted to preserve anything healthy. I'm glad to still have it.
