Recovery?

Hi, I am due to have a full vaginal hysterectomy, laparoscopy, and bladder lift on Aug. 4th. I have 3 kids, 11, 4, and 2. I was just wondering from people who have been though this how long does it really take to recover? I am a Jr. High teacher and I am considering highering one of my former students to come and help me out around the house and with the kids during the day. I was hoping to be able to go back to work the beginning of Sept. and was wondering is this was a realistic goal. If there are no complications, what is the recovery like?

Recovery?

I am not sure anyone can really answer that for you. Lots of us have had great, fast recovery, others have not. You need to plan for a down time of at least 6 weeks. If you have a faster recovery, then you can change plans.

I think having help is a great idea. You are restricted from lifting and lots of the household chores that require lifting and or bending for the whole 6 weeks.

Even if you don't hurt, you will get tired more easily than you did before.

Biggest lesson for me: let the housekeeping standards go a little bit while you are healing -- so what if the toilets get a ring, or the floor isn't vacuumed everyday.......it will be fine.

I've seen it a bunch on this site, and made it my personal mantra:
You only have one chance to heal well, make sure you do everything in your power to make it happen.......

Recovery?

Hi, the normal recovery time seems to be 6 - 8 weeks. Sometimes a bit sooner for a vaginal hyst. Please talk to your dr about it and follow his/her orders before returning to teach. You might even ask about half days for at first

Angie gave you some good advice about not over doing even if you feel well quickly. A hyst is a major surgery no matter which method is used. There's lots of internal stitches that need to heal as well as any external ones.

I'd certainly think of hiring help if you won't have a friend or family member there. 3 children are probably pretty demanding.

Best wishes.
