Wow, I've got a post-op scar that goes from my navel all of the way down-- okay, though, since it allowed my doctor good access to my severe endo.

Anyone have any particular success with reducing the appearance of post hyster scars?

There is a good site to check out where I got some good info.

makemeheal.com

I have heard vitamine E is good and cocoa butter.

I ordered me some ScarGuard for when I get the go ahead to start using something. I'll probably use the vit E. also.

I've heard that silicone sheets will do a good job with scaring also.

Good Luck.

I wish I could get rid of my scar. It's right at the bikini line but runs across my stomach from one side to the other. It's healing well, and I won't be wearing any bikinis any time soon, but there must be something to put on it when the dr. says ok to make it not be so obvious.

Definitely Vitamin E. My mom used it after having hip surgery and when I questioned her about using someting to reduce my scar, she showed me her hip and I really had to look to see it. She started using Vitamin E 50 days after surgery (that's how long she was in the nursing home for her right hip operation) and it still looks that good.

When I went for my 8 week post op appt. I told the PA that I was using the Vitamin E and she said the incision was feeling soft and to keep it up. I have it in the bathroom on the back of the toilet and put it on a few times a day when I get out of the shower and when I go in to "do my business"! If I leave it in my bedroom, I'm usually too tired to remember to put it on before going to bed.

I have a vertical scar, too and I find it really hard to look at it. I just started using Palmers cocoa butter with Vit E and hope it improves.

It has been 8 months since my hysterectomy and I used vitamin E cream to reduce scaring. I started applying it as soon as my incision was healed closed. I applied it twice a day and now I have just a very slight scar. My surgeon didn't use staples thankfully. He said he thought they were barbaric....so his stitched me up from the inside so the stitches wouldn't even show and they dissolved. I'm so thankful my surgeon paid attention to every last detail...including not using staples to minimize the scar's visible appearance. I had an incision about six inches long from my belly button down.

After I go for my second post op visit on June 7th, I'll have to try some vitamin E if the dr. says it is ok. My scar is healing well but still very red. I have a horizontal scar going from one side of my stomach to the other. It would be great to have something to put on it to make it less red. I think the stitches are dissolving. I can't feel them now like I could before.

Don't get discouraged about the redness.....the redness on mine didn't go away until about month 5 or 6. Every time I've had surgery, my scars stay red for a long time but it eventually goes away. Everyone is different.
