Re: Okay to have sex/bath?

I've read that it takes four months for the vaginal cuff to really be healed and strong. I was shocked when my doctor said they usually clear women for sex 6 weeks post op. Every case study I've read about dehiscense and evisceration has occured after intercourse. Granted that is an extremely rare complication but just shows the 'trauma' that sex can have on an area that was so recently operated on. So I'll probably wait a little longer for sex just to let my repairs and cuff get really strong.

I agree with this. Even if you didn't have a vaginal cuff due to keeping your cervix, I still believe it takes many months to fully heal. I kept my cervix, and I can tell you, while I was back at worked and cleared for everything at 6 weeks, it really was a few months later before I felt completely, fully normal.

It's my opinion....and I'm not a doctor....just my opinion....that doctors say 6 weeks for sex because we're about 80% healed, and the men would go crazy if the doctors said wait 4 months! Again, just my opinion.

In my case, I tried at 8 weeks, and while sex felt good, lubrication was great, etc., I did not climax, even though I felt relaxed enough to do so. It was at that point I started to worry....what if my internal orgasm is gone?! External one was fine, I found that out at 2 weeks, lol. But by 4 months, internal, earth-shaking orgasm was back, exactly the same as before. I think my body was saying "wait, we're not completely healed yet."

I guess my husband and I will have a great Valentine's Day!
This is a question only your doctor can answer. Our restrictions are very specific to us as individuals and are based on our surgery type, what was done inside, and our unique health circumstances. I was cleared at 8 weeks.

Re: Okay to have sex/bath?

I haven't had any discharge/bleeding issues (yet), and hopefully I won't. I asked my doctor at pre-op about the timeframe for no sex. He said 8 weeks. My follow-up appointment is in 2 weeks, so I will ask him again. I'd rather wait another few weeks and not have to be in pain or have to have surgery because something tore/opened.
