Unable to biopsy, Fibroid crowning in cervix...

Ok, I am brand new to all of this. Everything has been normal up until this months cycle. I had the worst period of my life last week, that ended up in an ER visit, and 3 pints of blood transfusion. I went to the Gyn for a follow up visit, and to get a biopsy of my uterus today. She was unable to biopsy due to a huge fibroid blocking the entrance. She said it was very rare, because I was 70% effaced, and dialated to 3cm. Like I am giving birth to this thing! She tried to manually move it, but it is stuck in place, so rather than the 2 or 3 month wait to have surgery, she wants me to have it next Tuesday. On a bright note, she said she can do a mini tummy tuck afterwards, I am not a candidate for a normal tummy tuck because I have had a DVT in the past, and its too risky.

My lower back hurts and I have a terrible headache now. So, I am trying to get a crash couse in all of this. She will not be able to do a vaginal surgery, so she has to go through my tummy, like a c-section. I am so nervous now. This is not what I expected. Any suggestions or pointers or anything that will help me become prepared??

Re: Unable to biopsy, Fibroid crowning in cervix...

Hi JustinsWife! The same thing happened to me, except I actually did basically give birth to my fibroid. It had completely prolapsed throu my cervix and was just about out of my body. Unfortunatly for me, nobody believed me when I was in excruciating pain, so nobody realized what was going on. When I finally ended up in the ER for the 3rd time, and my gyno realized exactly how anemic I was, they moved surgery up a month. I had an abdominal incision, too. And honestly, as soon as I woke up from surgery I felt better! I had been in so much pain, and felt so ****ty for so long that once mit was allout of my body I actually felt better! Today I'm almost 4 months out from my surgery and I feel better then I have in a very long time. After all you've been throug,h a couple more days of painw ill be worth it in the end! Good Luck!!

This happened to me also. I ended up having a TAH, but the doctor told me that he had to remove part of the fibroid tumor vaginally. And like you, they couldn't do the colposcopy because the fibroid was in the way. To be safe, I was referred to an oncologist. Once he examined me, the hysterectomy was scheduled within 5 days.

On the bright side, you won't have to wait and worry for 2 - 3 months. Sending prayers and best wishes for an uneventful surgery and recovery.

Re: Unable to biopsy, Fibroid crowning in cervix...

Wow...I had an attempted biopsy yesterday and she could not do it because of a blockage. I was terrified but am feeling better knowing it was not just me. She did not say it was in the cervix. They could not do a very good ultrasound either due to the large solid mass. I am praying this is a fibroid and nothing more. I have never really had a lot of pelvic pain until today. I keep getting sharp pains in my tummy. I am hoping it is just because I have been poked and proded so much this week. I am waiting for a CT scan to be scheduled so they can get a better look at this thing.
