Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

Please folks help me! I had a TAH yesterday using the DaVinci robot. I felt great! no pain meds at all - up and walking all day long.....today however I am miserable! I think I am full of gas - lots of pain when i take deep breathes (in the abdomen not the chest!!) and constant spasms of gas that I can feel moving through my stomach. Just tell me this is normal and I will be ok! thanks ladies! sue

Re: Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

Most of my pain came from gas after the davinci. If your doctor says ok, take gasx, it helped me immensely. The gas pain was far far worse than the surgery pain.

Re: Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

yes its normal, use the pain meds, even though it is from gas they help. When you are in such pain your muscles tense up which doesnt lead to expelling gas. I was told to buy a certain kind of gas pill, and it wasnt the strongest one on the market, so I was using them and an occasional gas xx strip. also carbonated soda helped me to belch alot, that saved me because I couldnt actually pass gas until my third or fourth day. Also walking all day may have made you crampy, its a balance between moving and rest. Remember yesterday, no pain meds at all, felt great, walked all day? You probably still had the anithesia in your system and whatever they gave you at the hospital . If you use the pain meds you will be so much more comfortable.

Re: Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

It IS incredibly painful as the gas just rivets through your stomach! My "been there, done that" advice:
-take the pain meds, they will help
-walk , walk, walk and space that with rest
-chew gum
-rocking REALLY helps...both in a rocking chair and just standing up and rocking back and forth on your heels

This will get better...hang in there!

Re: Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

I agree w/ everyone else. You still have anesethia in your body, will have for a wk or so, so that is against you also. Gas from any surgery is awful, and so hard to get rid of. Gas x does help, but remember it only gets rid of what is your intestines, and the gas from the surgery can get everywhere, even in your shoulders, which is very very painful. I think you should be very very careful about walking too much. This surgery is very good for making you feel alot better than you really "think" you feel. One day you'll feel great, walking around, maybe go out for a bit, and then you'll be in bed and hurting for a couple of days. Please rest rest and rest some more.
A rocking chair really does help if you have one. Walking around helps also. I agree w/ taking the pain meds, better to stay on top of things and not visa versa. I hope you get feeling better soon, it does get better, just takes a bit. Hugs.

Re: Davinci technique and stomach pain (GAS???)....help!

I always made it a point to lay around for a few hours and then just walk the halls in the house for about 4-5 minutes. I don't think anyone here is pushing her to walk 5 miles a day or anything.

No, She said herself she had been walking all day the day after, that alone could make ya feel awful, I am not saying dont walk, I am saying rest also. I too walk for about five minutes every hour
