Is an abdominal support band recommended for all hysterectomies?

Is an abdominal support band recommended for all hysterectomies, irregardless of whether they are done Laparoscopicly or abdominally?

Also, if your surgery includes pelvic floor repairs (prolapsed uterus & bladder), does this have an affect on the need for extra support?

Sorry if these are silly questions. My urogynocologist & his staff have given me extensive info on my surgery, but have not yet mentioned if I'll be sent home with an abdominal support band or if they recommend one.

Some doctors actively oppose the use of abdominal binders. Outside of that, it's a personal choice. Some sisters swear by them, others never used or wanted them. I'm in the latter camp. As far as I call tell, it seems to depend less on surgery type and more on body type, with fluffier sisters finding them more useful.

I can't function without my binder I wear them daily and it gives good support. I don't know whether it depends on the type of surgeries but I had a DvH. My doctor never mentioned a binder to me either. I found them on this site and some larger fuller ones on amazon. I lift all day at work and my binder gives me the support I need.

I hadn't heard of them outside of this site. I am a fluffier sister and having had c-sections felt I had some idea of what to expect and didn't get one. I a,now two weeks post hysterectomy and the only thing I thinkit may have helped with is managing to sleep on my side sooner. I was sleeping on my side after about a week and a bit.

Did use one, didn't buy one. And I am quite fluffy.

I have read some negative things about them.

So I suggest you do your research before using one. And ask you doctor what s/he recommends.
