Q about taking overaries / incision size

Hello! I'm currently scheduled for a LSH on Nov 20.

I have now decided to also have my cervix removed (a few abnormal paps), and it is very likley my left ovary/tube will go as well.

I'm getting myself all worked up about the incisions, etc. I've seen that a lot of women have had staples, which freaks me the heck out for some reason.

Are staples only used in a case of a TAH? Or could that be the case if you are having ovary removed (since it's further "in")?

Any how does the Dr make the decision whether it's LAVH vs. TLH vs. TVH? (I think I have those acronyms right..? lol)

Hopefully this makes sense, and thanks in advance to anyone who responds. I think once I have a 'name' to my surgery I'll feel much better.

Re: Q about taking overaries / incision size

Staples are a TAH thing. Lap incisions don't get staples. I'm not sure how the surgical decision is made, it's partly surgeons experience and preference, partly individual factors and exam. My GYN preferred TVH if possible, but would do LAVH if the uterus wasn't mobile enough or he needed a better view. I'm sure other GYNs have their own preferences. Your GYN can let you know how he decides and how many incisions you can expect. That does vary, too.

Re: Q about taking overaries / incision size

Hi,

I am having a TLH on Monday and my surgeon told me at my pre op appointment that there will be two 5cm cuts that they will uses surgical glue and one 10cm cut that will have stitches.

I think it all depends on the size of your uterus what type of surgery you have.
