Finally have my date

Today I had my appointment with my Dr to schedule my hysterectomy. December 15th is "D" day. I am very nervous but relieved. She is going to leave one ovary and I am still not sure about my cervix. I have my pre op appoinment the begining of December. I am also nervous about how my body will be after the surgery, and what kind of changes I will be going through. Since I will be keeping an ovary will my hormones still be all crazy? If anybody has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I am not happy about having it so close to christmas but that was the only time my mom could fly up here to help me. Thank you in advance!

Re: Finally have my date

Some women that have an ovary or ovaries left do experience the ovary or ovaries going into shock. But they come out of it, and of course the time it takes for them to "wake" up varies. Hang in there!! Glad your mom is able to help! You will be able to have it early enough in Dec to have almost 2 wks to recover before XMAS..

Re: Finally have my date

I hope so!! I have two small children and I really don't want to be in too much pain for xmas. When you say shock do you mean like menopause?

Re: Finally have my date

I scheduled my TAH last week for Dec. 14th. Like you the choice was based on the availability of family to help. I'm concerned about the timing and Christmas as well, we have 4 kids.

Re: Finally have my date

That is just fine. Mine didn't. I was on a clear liquid diet the day before with nothing in the mouth after midnight. My surgery went off just fine.

Re: Finally have my date

I didn't have a bowel pre but I did eat lightly the day before and nothing after midnight.

I was scheduled to have one ovary removed but once inside my DR said they both looked great and didn't need to remove either.

Some women experience sudden menopause after surgery and if you do, just talk with your DR for help. I didn't have any problems with a change in Hormones. I feel very lucky for that, because I warned DH I might be really moody.

I am sure you will do just fine!!! Hang in there and keep asking questions!!
