openings on incision

I'm three weeks post TAH/BSO today with a vertical incision that has two very small openings at the bottom of the incision with a scant amount of discharge and bleeding.....is this anything I should be concerned about? I've been cleansing it a couple of times a day and applying an antibiotic ointment and then a sterile 4x4. I didn't know if this is a common occurence....anyone else out there experience this?

Hi Beachnut... Aug 2 was my TAH/BSO, horizontally. I have a similar problem but my incisional openings are in the middle, just below my belly button. My doc took a look, said things are progressing nicely and applied silver nitrate to the openings with the assurance that after a couple of weeks they would close on their own and that the silver nitrate would help them dry up. I am one week from that doc visit and I do see an improvement. I keep a non-adhesive cover over the area and cleanse with Dove soap once daily.

As a side note, my 14 staples were removed about 48 hours post-op and steri-strips were applied. I thought it was awfully soon following surgery, but for an 8" incision there are only two little spots that still remain open and the rest of the incision seems to be healing quite nicely.

I had this happen after a different surgery I had. I did call the doctor and he wanted me to come in right away. It turned out not to be serious, but he did clean the area and pack it. I think you should give your doctor a call. I think it would be best to have the doctor take a look and let him/her decide what to do.
