Hrt

I'm so confused and scared about Hormone Replacement ...synthetic or what? All I hear is breast cancer, stroke, heart disease...blood clots. I'm 14 days post op and two days from my two week check up? Can someone enlighten me on this? What am I supposed to do?

Re: Hrt

I am also wondering about this, and wonder whether this is only something recommended for women who have yet to go thru menopause?? I am already 4 yrs into menopause, and wasn't taking any HRT drugs prior to the hysterectomy (2 wks ago tomorrow) with no problems. I hate the idea of taking more drugs and adding on risks and side effects. But am I going to start becoming man-like? I am lost on this subject.

Re: Hrt

I am lost also, thanks for your insight. I really am at a loss at what to do. Of course I am going to discuss it with my doctor but I also have had several bouts with fibroids in my breasts including a lumpectomy and my parent both have had strokes, which killed my mother. I am so confused. Good luck to you and thanks for your reply

Re: Hrt

I am 38 and had my ovaries removed on Feb 20th. Although I am having hot flashes (only at night), I am not on any HRT due to my increased cancer risks....my doctor says I cannot take it and he will not prescribe it for me. I actually feel very good about this decision...perhaps because my menopause symptoms seem to be minimal thus far! I just started taking black cohosh after researching it and asking my dr. Hope it will help with my nighttime issues.

Re: Hrt

My surgeon actually recommended black cohosh for hot flashes, but he did say it's an unproven supplement, from a scientific standpoint, but that many women seem to respond to it in lessening their hot flashes, or making them not as intense. I've found that for me, I have to take it continually for days, weeks, for it to accumulate enough in my system to have an effect. So I think the key here, is that you have to keep taking it daily, twice and give it time to start working.

Re: Hrt

I have been on her since my TAH over a year ago
I've had no major issues. It keeps the moodiness and hot flashes at bay
I am Leiden factor 5, which means z
I take blood thinners for clotting issues but as long as I am on thinners the hrt is ok with all my doctors. My meds help and I feel human when on them, but do your research!
