3 weeks post hysterectomy - how much bleeding is too much

The first two weeks after surgery I have very little spotting, mostly pinkish brown and mucousy . Now at 3 weeks I am spotting heavy, not enough to saturate a pad, but it is a lot more than before and is bright pink to brownish red. .

I have had no incidents of pain and have followed my restrictions

I really don't want to go back to doc and I sure don't want to have anything redone!

You sound like me in following doc's orders and restrictions - I don't want anything redone either.

Healing happens in stages rather than a straight line, with a continuous cycle of new scar tissue replacing older scar tissue and the older tissue dissolving. It could be that you're in one of those dissolving/replacing stages right now. If you're not saturating a pad or experiencing any pain, you're probably okay... I'd keep an eye on it, see how it looks over the next day or two. If you want some peace of mind, call the doc's office tomorrow - they're better at asking the right questions to determine if this is in the range of normal. They might even give you the option of coming in or keeping an eye on it.

I'm having a very similar experience. I had little/no bleeding in weeks 1&2. Just yesterday, I started bleeding--bright red at some points. I did not overflow a pad, but the bright red concerned me, so I called my Dr. She said that it could be from a scab that came loose and needed to reform. All of those incisions that we can't see are still in the healing process. She told me that if the bleeding didn't slow down today to give her another call, but she felt confident that it would--and it has. I slowed my activity level way down and gave myself permission to do very little today.
I wouldn't hesitate to call and ask for reassurance if you are at all concerned. No need to deal with anxiety on top of healing!

Re: 3 weeks post op - how much bleeding is too much

Hi there,

I had the same experience after full hysterectomy +ovaries with da Vinci and c-section.
No bleeding in weeks 1 & 2 then quite some, very red and abundant enough so that I would need a pad instead of a pantiliner. It lasted a couple of days but I saw my doc at 4 weeks. She examined me outside and inside and was not worried. I saw her again 2 weeks later, still bleeding but way less. She asked me to not resume bath/swim/sex before week 8 so that it allows for better healing. Am at week 7 today and still leak a drop of watery blood or two and seeing her again next week. Hope that all will have healed! Can't wait to go back swimming!
Cheers!
