Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
I was treated for years for a back problem. Saw several doctors and they all couldn't figure out why the herniated discs they saw on test would give me so much pain. Each doctor said they would give me steroid injections to kill the pain but I'm allergic to steroids which I didn't find out until I had some done years ago.
So to make this story short I had my hyst done in March and my back and leg pain have been gone since then. After finding this site I have seen where several women have posted how their hyst took back and leg pain away. It's just amazing to me how much those fibroids and cyst effect our whole being.
Wishing you all a speedy recovery.
PS I have 3 siamese cats and 1 dog from rescue.

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
Hi Madeline,
My name is Carrie. I am 39 years old and just had a complete hyst. back in April. I also was scarred to have this done. But the surgery went great and have no regrets. I was only in the hospital overnight which is the normal stay. I also had endomitriotis real bad along with huge cysts on my uterus and both ovaries. I had everything removed including tubes and cervix. I feel 100 percent better. No more pain. My husband and I had been trying for 10 years to have a child sadly with no success. Having the hyst was very sad for me and still am depressed at times not because of the hyst itself but for not being able to have a child of our own. I wish you the best of luck and remember go into surgery with a positive attitude and know the pain will soon be over. Carrie

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
Hi, I am Cindy, I'm 50 years old and I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago in Oct. It's the best thing I ever did! I could write a novel of all the pain and PSM, troubles I had. They found a few cancer cells so I was so glad I had gone through with it, I almost chickened out! I had my surgery laproscopically so was only in the Hospital for 8 hours. My mom had a total hysterectomy with lymph nodes removed and was in for 4 days. My advice to make things a little easier is do deep breathing exercises, starting now and continue them after surgery. Breathe in, make sure you are tummy breathing, to the count of 8, hold your breath to the count of 8 and blow out to the count of 16. This will help your lungs recover from anesthesia. The other thing that my mom, myself and my 2 sisters found that really helped get the intestines working again after surgery, and it helped with the gas ,is to chew gum as soon as you can after you wake up from surgery. Other than that do what your Dr, advises and don't overdo after surgery, let your body fully recover no matter how good you feel. Good luck! I will be lifting all of you ladies in my prayers for a great surgery, no complications, and a speedy and full recovery! Cindy

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
Ladies it's ok to be scared. I think that's pretty normal - don't you? I am two years out from my TAH and BSO and feeling F A N T A S T I C !! I have never looked back... Take a deep breath and make up your mind to get on with living!
When I had my surgery, I spent two nights in the hospital and was ready to go home the third day. My helpful hints would be to really pay attention to not over doing things! Walk around your house. Take your pain meds before any pain gets too bad - don't wait! Drink lots of fluids and take any stool softeners your doctor has recommended. I wore a "belly band" after my surgery and it helped tremendously! Rest when you get tired. Put your feet up - grab a cat or two and a good book (or good movie) and let someone else take care of you for just a bit. Be especially kind to and patient with yourself for the first two weeks after surgery - this can be hard for us women to do - but do try to do it - it makes all the difference. By four weeks out I flew across the country to a wedding and danced the night away... although a little sore the next morning basically I felt great.
I continue to feel good now. Just didn't realize the extent my "female" troubles were affecting my whole body and life. Life is good girls! Good luck with your surgeries and hang in there!
Jeanne

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
I am 12 days post op I had the da vinci hysterectomy and they took everything. I had spent the last 6 months in pain on narcotics from a failed ablation and I too had thigh pain . I was told it was common when the pain got severe or if there was congestion in your abdomen. I am thrilled with my decision though I suffered a recent set back because earlier this week our vehicle was broken in to and upon waking and dicovering the door open I went running down the stairs reacting without thinking and started spotting and the pain returned even down my thigh. I was seen by my surgeon this morning and didn't do any damage just shook things up and was given more pain meds and an antibiotic to assure no infection. I think we all get scared as the day comes closer but if you have been suffering trust me you won't regret having the surgery. Best of luck to you dear ((( hugs))) and prayers..

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
I agree with what another poster said. I was REALLY surprised at the level of pain I had just come to accept as normal. Except for a UTI following the surgery, I actually had less pain immediately after the surgery, WITHOUT PAIN MEDS, than I had before.
I will confess that I was scared to death too. I react very badly to anesthesia, and was not looking forward to being incapacitated, and was scared of how it would change me in all sorts of ways. But after only a few weeks, I felt better than I had in years. I was wonderful! After decades of pain, an ablation, and just plain misery, I felt human, and honestly wished I had done it years earlier.
I am sure having to get it done so suddenly is causing you extra grief, and none of us here can guarantee what will happen. But if having the hysterectomy had helped me only half as much as it did, I would have still done it.
Hope this helps. Glad you found us!

Re: Terrified...with a cat on my head
Hi! I am Dana and live in Georgia as well. I had my surgery on Nov 3 with only a week for preparation, too. It is scary to jump into something so quickly, but with all the symptoms you are having, less time to think yourself out of it may be for the best. We are all here for you anytime and any day, so feel free to call on us whenever you need us. We have all been where you are, some with more illness, some with less. But that does not diminish the fear and anxiety of the unknown or of the real risks associated with a surgery. Just know that you are not alone.
Dana
