Anyone else put on Clindessa beforehand?

Hi, I'm scheduled for November 3, and I received my pre-op instructions from the doctor in the mail yesterday. In it is a script for Clindessa, telling me I need to use it for 5 nights before the surgery. Has anyone else needed to do this? I know for a fact I don't have bacterial vaginosis, which is what it's for, so is it like an antibiotic for prep or something?
Thanks!

Anyone else put on Clindessa beforehand?

Hi there!

I am not familiar with using Clindessa pre-op, but am hoping there might be others who have had some experience with this...you may have already done so, but have you contacted your doc's office to ask about the nature/need for it? I do hope that you will find some answers, and I wanted to wish you the absolute best for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery...please do keep us posted, and please take care

Sincerely, Trish

It is now common practice for doctors to incorporate proactive antibiotics prior to surgery of any kind. Clindessa is frequently being used at this time by surgeons prior to hysterectomy.........the drug company has very effective sales reps.

I like the idea of proactive antibiotics, but am sensitive to them. I always make certain to eat plenty of yogurt if on antibiotic therapy to prevent probable yeast infection. The oral antibiotics.....like Clindessa..... are less likely to cause side effects, compared to the one-time IV antibiotics that can be used immediately before.....or during.....surgery.

I hope this helps give you some peace of mind. Take care...............Deb
