9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

I was feeling really good just taking ibuprophen for pain the last 4 or 5 days, so I started back to doing my household chores, vacuuming, laundry, cooking, ect. but no heavy lifting. Last night the pain was worse than ever, it kind of felt like a pinching pain in my abdomen. I've felt that pain before like when I sit up for straight up for very long. I'm just wondering if maybe I just overdid it yesterday. I hope I didn't damage anything. Any thoughts, anyone?? Jamie

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

You are very early in your recovery to be vacuuming and doing laundry. It sounds likely that you overdid it. You must be feeling really well though, and that's great! Just take it easier.

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

I am 4 weeks post op LSH...still haven't vacummed..the husband is doing that today. My doctor told me at my 2 week postop that it is still a 4-6 week recovery even though we only have 4 small incisions. a couple days ago i returned to the gym and walked 30 minutes at 2mph on the treadmill and my lower abdomen is super sore . I was in good physical shape going into this.

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

I am week 3 post op from an LSH. I keep thinking I am doing great and then I do a lot and I feel like I am back to square one with the pain. It is frustrating because you want to do more. It's hard having someone do even the simplest tasks for you. But you don't want to have another surgery to repair damage. So, take it easy. Recovery will happen a little each day. Best of Luck!!

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

Ditto to what everyone else here has said. I think with the little incisions we have, we get the (wrong) idea that if it doesn't hurt initially, it must be okay. Then we get the swelling and burning, and pulling sensations.

I too felt so good the first 2 wks that I couldn't imagine why I had to be off work for 6 wks. You may look fairly healed on the outside, but are NOT on the inside.

I am almost 7 wks post op, and I still can't sit upright in a chair comfortably for more than 2 hrs. I have a pillow in my car, and go out to my car on breaks and lunches. I put the front seat way back and lean up against the door with a pillow behind me, and put my legs up on the seat. I have to get the pressure off my abdomen or I am miserable.

I have to make sure I get a recliner or footstool tomorrow at our family's Easter gathering, or I'll have to go home early!

LSH may mean an EASIER recovery, but that doesn't mean we all will just sail through it. Rest, rest, rest.

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

You definately over did it and your body told you so. Just take things a bit slower for now. Add a little at a time. If you hurt then wait another week to try again.

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

Hey shescountry-I went grocery shopping 4 days post op as well!! We had our surgery the same day. I still feel like crap too. I describe it as having had the bottom part of my turso cut up by a chainsaw!! I am finding that a percocet and a warm heating pad are my best friends. Happy Easter, sista!

Re: 9 days post op/pain question (LSH)

Gosh, the doctor gave the right to do nothing for 6 weeks and sister I am jumping on that. My floor looks like poo, and the bathrooms are starting to upset me, but hey 6 weeks of doing nothing is to much to resist. So hire a temp maid sit back get your fav drink and book and or movie and enjoy the fact your have to right to do nothing.
