New to posting on the boards

Hi, I am scheduled for the Davinci on March 19th. I just turned 40. I had an ablation 5 years ago due to extremely heavy periods and horrible cramping. Fast forward 5 years and I started spotting and then having a light period. Went to the doctor and had an ultrasound and bloodwork...turns out that I am POST MENOPAUSAL...say what?!?! Ultrasound showed a thickened endometrial lining with fluid distending the uterus. Tried to do an Endometrial Biopsy in the office...which she was unable to do. Discussed going under and doing a biopsy, another ablation and a DC, I asked about a hysterectomy if those results were not favorable...she said if I was even thinking of having a hysterectomy she didn't see why I would want to undergo 2 surgeries and I wasn't anxious to have the ablation again...as there were some complications that I really didn't want to experience all over again. She said I was an ideal candidate for the Davinci and referred me to one of the other doctors in the practice. He agreed I was a candidate and here I am...I had wanted this done 5 years ago, but my doctor back then said I was too young and the ablation was the way to go...I just hope I'm not jumping the gun...I feel decent other than intercourse hurts like no other and I spot for days afterwards, and then everytime I start to second guess the surgery, I start spotting, and then I worry because the doctor was unable to do the biopsy... maybe it's a sign that I do need to move forward with this... Guess that's my story in a nutshell ~Kari

Re: New to posting on the boards

Hi Kari, I am post menopause as well and had a D&C for a thickened lining, one polyp removed, and bleeding. Five weeks later I started bleeding worse than before. All of my tests have come back okay so there is no explanation for the bleeding. I also have pelvic pain that docs cannot find a reason for. I think I would be concerned about not being able to do a biopsy. PM bleeding is not normal so you know that something is not right. And intercourse should not hurt, it should be something you can enjoy with your partner - another indication something is not right. When I was first told I needed a hyst. I was second guessing as well - especially since my bleeding stopped. (Maybe it was just a fluke?) As time goes by and I can process all the pros and cons, the pros outweigh the cons. You still have a few weeks to think about it - your date is two days before mine - so you may want to list pros and cons and see which list is longer or has things on it that are more important than others. Praying for wisdom for you as you decide what to do.

Re: New to posting on the boards

Thank you Maine-iac for your kind words. I have been doing the pro/cons list non-stop. I know this is the best thing for me, and will finally put my mind at ease at what is going on in there...I'm just the queen of second guessing when my nerves get the best of me. I keep telling myself that this will take care of everything and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy intercourse with husband again...I know he would like that as well. I fear that the doctor will say in recovery that there really wasn't any reason for the surgery and that all this pain and spotting was a fluke or figment of my imagination...I know that is totally an unrealistic thing to happen...but I worry non the less Thanks again for your kind words and good luck to you with your surgery!!
