Insomnia after 9 weeks???

Metallichic, what other sugery are you going to have? Having another surgery to think about would cause me not sleep in itself. I sure hope the doc. gives you ambien if its one of the only things that helps you sleep. Everyones situation is different and has different medical concerns. I'm not sure why they wouldn't prescribe extra ambien for you. My doctor prescribes it for me and it's been a blessing. The anxiety get really bad for me when I don't sleep. I hope you get some relief soon. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Kathy

Insomnia after 9 weeks???

Thanks Kathy. I'm having a torn rotator cuff and torn labrum repaired on November 20....that was supposed to be first, but when I finally decided I couldn't take the bleeding and pain anymore and my GI said she'd let me have the hysterectomy, the shoulder repair went on the back burner.

I have had insomnia for quite some time now, as I said, and my PCP has blown me off about it. He's the one who told me to use benadryl and melatonin, neither of which do much of anything. For some reason, he seemed very reluctant to give me something like Ambien, perhaps because of the pain meds I take for my Crohn's, or because my GI is the one who writes for pain meds...not quite sure. The gyn gave me 30 days of Ambien with no problem, in fact, he suggested it when i told him I wasn't sleeping. I haven't been back to him, so I haven't gotten more from him, and I think he only gives small bits....but I'm hoping that when I tell my doctor all the things I've tried, and how Ambien actually worked, he might give it to me...I just need a good night's sleep, I can't stand this anymore.

Insomnia after 9 weeks???

Melallichic, Oh my goodness you have a lot on your plate. I have a friend that has crohns and that's a lot by itself. I sure hope your surgery on the 20th goes well. I think it's a good idea to tell your doctor what you have tried and that Ambien was the only thing that worked. Hopefully he will be understanding. Not being able to sleep is the worst thing. For me it makes everything else much worse. I sure hope you get some relief soon. Let us know how it all goes. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Insomnia after 9 weeks???

Hello all, thought I'd update you on my visit with the doctor today.

I told him how little I'd been sleeping, and about the Ambien and all the other things I had tried. I guess he's finally agreeing that I need help. He voiced concerns about me taking Ambien because of the risk of dependence, as well as all my other meds. He gave me some samples of Rozerem to try, and he said if it didn't work, we could go to Ambien. He said that you can't take Ambien every night or for a long period of time, but you can Rozerem. I've heard a few people say that Rozerem didn't work, but everyone is different...so I'm hoping for the best!

Again, thanks to all of you for the support!
