Pre-op scheduling question

The scheduler called today and the earliest appt. is 12/23 or 12/30. I took the 12/30 one because I didn't even want the remote possibility of being in the hospital Christmas Day. I am so bummed because I am a school teacher and having it done mid-Dec. would have made to whole process of preparing to be away from work so much easier (not to mention my own Type A anticipation anxiety). I am "wait-listed" in case there is a cancellation in Dec.

I have to go to my primary care for my pre-op no more than 30 days prior. Do you think going 11/30 is a good idea or should I wait until later in Dec. to give a cushion of time?

Re: Pre-op scheduling question

I had my pre-op yesterday...my surgery is next Tuesday. I found it helpful to wait and have my pre-op closer to my surgery because it gave me time to make a list of important questions. I kept my notepad next to my computer and added to it routinely as things came to my attention (mostly via this site). If I had to do it again...I'd do it the same way.

Re: Pre-op scheduling question

I would say maybe do it later into December. My pre-op was different then others on here. I went in about a month before my surgery and scheduled the surgery date and my doctor (gyn/onc) came in and just talked with me. Nothing about the surgery or anything just came in and talked. I had my pre-op with the hospital 2 weeks before surgery, during this time they asked me alot of questions and that was it. I did not bloodwork or ekg.

Good luck with your surgery.

Re: Pre-op scheduling question

Im like you the waiting is killer. I even had my name put on the cancellation list to get it over with. My pre-op was two days before which was good because I had made list of questions. (there is a great list here to ask your Dr) I hope this helps

Re: Pre-op scheduling question

Hi bix

I work in higher education and scheduled my surgery for the day after Christmas so I could have as much time as possible for both Christmas day and for as little time as possible away from work.

I had my pre-op appointment about three weeks before my surgery and felt that it was perfect timing for me. It made everything feel more real to me, which helped motivate me to get my work done so I was ready for surgery, but I still had time to actually get the work done.

If you are waitlisted for an earlier surgery date, it might make sense to have the pre-op appointment done as early as possible, justs so you're prepared.

I wish you the best on your surgery!
