No husband for pre op
Dear Gladheart,
Cut yourself some slack. You are getting ready to go through a very serious surgery. It is ok for you to feel the way you are. It is just important to let your husband know everything including your feelings.
I wish you the speediest of recoveries. You will be in my prayers.

No husband for pre op
Hi,
I didn't really think about my dh going with me to my appointments. He was there the whole day of surgery and for d/c home. Preop isn't really a big deal. More important is that he is there helping you out at home and for emotional support.
Good luck to you in your upcoming surgery. I feel so great now ( 7 weeks post op)... it'll be a relief for you once the surgery is over.

Just like me
Rebecca.....you aren't alone......it's like my husband doesn't want to face the facts either. Everytime I talk about my surgery, he says....well, I would wait, or it's your decision.....like it is all up to me......or that I'm really going to be putting him out by being laid up for a while....what is it with men....seems like they are definitely the weaker sex!!! The lack of understanding what I am going through really hurts! I'm also one that is looking forward to the R&R after surgery! Good luck to you......

Mine didn't either
My husband did not even go with me to my surgery. However, mine was an emergency and they flew me out.. but still I was there alone in another city for 2 or 3 days...
Sometimes men just don't think about it.. they think that they are already doing what is best.
Good Luck

No husband for pre op
I think given all the different doctors and hospitals, every has a different experience, but my pre-op appointment wasn't a big deal at all, and I went to work afterwards.
I had an interview with a hospital representative where she took my insurance information and religious preference, and made sure she had all my current information, phone numbers, etc., then I had some blood drawn, and an EKG, and that was it. I had previously had a telephone interview where they got all my pertinent medical history, etc.
I didn't have any kind of exam at the pre-op, or speak to a doctor or anesthesiologist, was just sent in for those routine tests.

DH Support
My DH didn't come with me to pre-op appt nor did he take me to the hospital the day of surgery. (Our relationship has been strained for some time). I believe I am a stronger person for having gone through it without him. I did OK and am still doing OK. I have family and some dear friends that were there..it really helped.

No husband for pre op
My Dh was not present during pre op and that was OK with me. I felt like I could ask all kinds of questions (for example, if I felt that I wanted to wait 8 weeks instead of six to have sex is that OK? ) and talk about all my female parts and gadgets.
I informed my dr that after my surgery, when he talked to my DH about how surgery went, to please tell him *all* I couldn't do. And what would happen, physically, mentally and emotionally, if I did too much.
It was very effective, and fortunately didn't scare my husband "away".
