Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

I want to be back in a couple of weeks, I have an office job and theres only me, the owner and one other person that works here.

The other lady I work with has a surgery ever few months it seems and she comes back pretty quick, but she goes back to her office and has me bring her everything and I find myself running back and forth taking care of her.

I know she WONT be doing the same for me, I don't think I'd want to come back to work if I can't do things for myself. She thinks because she did it so quick I should too, but when she comes back she cries and yells......and expects me to be her nurse because she can't walk.....this is all fine, but I don't think she'll be doing this for me so anyway I'm kinda rambling huh.....ha ha.

ok so how long would most of you suggest I ask for off. My boss is an understanding person and he'll probably let me take off what I need, but I'm worried that he may not understand that the only reason she's able to is because I do EVERYTHING for her.

I would suggest asking your doctor what s/he thinks is best for you. Often an employer will require a release form from your physician stating you are able to return to work.

I can tell you that my GYN has his patients off work for six weeks but keeps an eye on them during recovery. Since you are also having a bladder sling, you may have additional restrictions to help you heal completely.

Each of us is different and we will not all have the exact same instructions. The best thing for all of us is to talk to our own doctors about us and follow their instructions!

Best wishes for a successful surgery and super recovery!

Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

Your doctor will be the best person to decide how much time you will need to take off, and your boss will have to abide by the note your doctor will provide. That being said, most women who have LAVH take approximately 4 weeks off, some more some less. Your doctor will have the final say, but plan on 6 weeks with the possibility of going back a week or so sooner.

Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

I took off four weeks, returned for a full 40 hour week at a very stressful job, and set myself two weeks back in the healing process, so I have been off for another week, with one more week to go.

I was very, VERY overwhelmed and emotional going back so soon, and started having pain again.

Taking care of you is most important. I didn't get paid for my time off, which is proving to be very difficult with bills right now, but we'll manage!

Let us know what you and you your doc think is best!

Good luck

Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

I have been wondering how long I should take off also. My Pre-Op was yesterday and my Surgery is on July 24th Im having the Davinci Hysterectomy. My problems are Menorrgia (sp) endometriosis and fibroids. Im 41 yrs old and work as a PreSchool teacher. From what I keep hearing the recovery time is supposed to be quicker having the Davinci however I also have Lupus so I put in for six weeks off initially. Im looking forward to the surgery but Im scared to death.

Scarrycat:
I too agree that you need to talk to your doc about the length of time off. And take all of it. You're going to have more intensive surgery than I am, so I wouln't try to rush the healing process. Is it possible for you to do some of the work at home?

Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

Hi, ditto asking your doctor's advice. Even though I had Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy, and some people that have this surgery go back much sooner, my doctor advised me to plan on 6 weeks off work. She said if I'm ready to go back sooner I can call her office and she'll give me a note. I am today 3 weeks post-op and glad for her advice. Am feeling better every day, but just so relieved not to feel rushed and pressured to get back to work, which would be added stress and the opposite of what I need to heal well. This sight has been a godsend and helped me see how important it is to heal well because I have this one time to recover. Best of luck to you!

Trying to decide how long I'm taking off

Everyone heals differently and are in different circumstances. I returned to to work a week and a half after the LAVH half days. I have a office job. I did it very carefully, moved cautionsly, and planned everything with as little up/downs as possible. The first week was a bit tough, but this week I have doing almost full days. I could not afford to lose any pay and also do not have kids or anyone to take care of at home. So when I got off, I came home and rested the rest of the evening. The 40 mile drive to and from was harder than the time spent at work.
