scared of the unknown

My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 19th. Complete LAVH, rectocele repair, the tape for my urethra, perineoplasty, removal of adhesions from my c-section scar, and something to do with ligaments that support being cut, shortened and sewn back together. Then they will be putting a scope into my bladder to check for kinks and such. They have said 3 hours for the surgery.
I will be put into a room post op, but if am doing okay, will be able to go home that night.
I am worried about waking from anestetic(sp). Have never had a surgery that long. And my mother had different surgery, but didn't wake up from it.
Also, my paperwork informs me that I will not be pain free during recovery, but that meds should make it tolerable. No pain is tolerable to me! lol
The last time I had a laparoscopic surgery to remove adhesions and encapsulation, I only had the small belly button incision. But, I was in pain for weeks.
What should I expect with all the work that is being done?

Being scared is normal. I was worried to about the anestesia, my dad doesnt respond well to anestetic too. every thing went fine and drs reasured me that the anestiea complications are rare. my srugery was less than two hours , i was told they wont start pain meds untill you are fully awake after sugery which i was so worried about but your so out of it when you first wake up and it does hurt but no as bad as i was thinking and after surgery the pain was alot less than the next days LOL . It realy is no ware as bad as you fear. Good luck
Here are some pre op articles to help Pre op

scared of the unknown

I had a TAH, so my procedure was very different from yours. But, we're similar in that I was very nervous about the unknown. And, since I'd never had surgery, pretty much everything fell into the "unknown" category. I, too, was very afraid of being put under. Petrified, in fact.

The honest-to-goodness truth is, I made things so much scarier in my mind than they actually were when the time came. The wait and the wondering was torturous - definitely the worst part of the entire experience.

One thing that helped me as I got closer and closer, and more nervous, was to try and visualize myself after surgery and recovery - with renewed energy, feeling wonderfully healthy. Give it a try, and good luck with everything!

Hey Tiggermj (Kansas sister): I hope things go well for you on Friday! The hospital will monitor you closely. They won't let anything happen to you during anesthesia.

I know my operation was entirely different than yours but I think that the type of care that you get in the hospital will be good.

I can remember being scared over being put under. I just hope that you get some nice nurse/intern to put you at ease. Maybe they will relax you. It may seem like a lot of hours to your family, but for you it will seem only like a second!

We will be thinking about you!

Thanks all. Had my pre anestesthia done yesterday and the nurse said I was a dream for them. No past or present medical problems and that waking up would be the last thing she would worry about if she was me. Pray for me.
