new here

Hi, I just recently had my hysterectomy on the 29th of august one week ago. I had the vaginal lap. Surgery ( I still have both ovaries ). Im still in the healing process and im so worried in why my legs and hips feel so week the last few days( not sure if its due to resting to much). My incisions on my abdomen are good,no swelling, but I do have pain when I have any gas at all. Im also constipated but with just the basic prune juice I seem to be okay. I also want to know if my sex life will be over?. Im terrified of any complications. I know no sexual activity after 6 weeks that's not an issue. I did have an attachment to my womb and have woke up crying a few times in the middle of the night. Does any of this pass? I want to be one of the women who say the hysterectomy was the best thing they did. Its only been a week so any advice will help. Thank you

Re: new here

Hi Renee. I too hope that the hysterectomy will end up being a good decision. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out now, and I think at one week out I was feeling very concerned. The best advice I got here was to be patient; it's simply too soon to know how your body is going to heal and respond.

I had extremely painful gas, and GasX really helped. It seems to be a common problem here. A nurse told me they pump us with air during the surgery and some of it gets trapped. But eventually it all gets out, and then the pain goes away too. The emotionality is real too, and seems to affect even women who have kept both ovaries. Something to keep an eye on. I presume it will get better as your body adjusts, especially if you've kept one or both ovaries. If you haven't, there are treatment options.

As far as the leg and hip pain I would keep an eye on it in case you need to talk to your doctor about it, but walking around without overdoing it is probably a good idea. I'm sure other members can chime in better on the sex issue.

Take good care of yourself and give yourself and your body a chance. Not easy to do, I know, but probably the best thing you can try.

Re: new here

I think the leg weakness is a combination of the position they had you in during the surgery, inactivity, and the general insult to your system that major surgery does. My legs were still heavy and unstable at one week. I had lymph nodes removed so the "lead feet" feeling lasted a while. You may be surprised by how fatigued you feel for a while. All you can do is rest, be careful when you are up and about and be patient.

Re: new here

Welcome!

The weakness in your legs is probably from the position they had you in while you were in surgery. Hang in there. It is really important to drink water and get your rest. I am 4 weeks post op (8/15/13 Lap assisted Hysterectomy, took ovaries too) and I found I needed to get the rest. It is an up and down ride but there are wonderful people here who have gone through what you and I have been through.

Hang in there!! Praying for you!!

Re: new here

Thank you. Its helpful. I found my heating pad and its been helping a lot. My husband has been kind enough to rub my legs and lower back, hips. It does wonders when you have someone who's very supportive. Thankfully he has been through this with his mom and sister. So he's no rookie thank goodness. I appreciate all the support on here. I was relieved of most of my worries using this site pre op.
