decision to make

I have menorraghia, an extremely thick uterus lining, I have had the HerOption Ablation in Nov 07, it was a total flop. I am still having heavy periods, not flooding anymore but heavier then a normal period, the ablation only reduced the lining by 4mm. I have 2 fibroids, while not near as large as some I have read, 1 is displacing the endometrium lining and causing a lot of pain. I am 39, have 4 kids, had my tubes tied, the HerOption results were so disappointing. I tried hormones last summer for 3 months, I have been having boil like knots under my arm right before my cycle each month since. I have sworn to never take another hormone. My GYN is leaving the options to me, she is great at not pressuring, I think we are past the wait and see part, I spent most of last year waiting and seeing if anything cleared up, a girl could hope. Her suggestions were shaving the fibroids and trying the Novasure Ablation, she thinks there is only a 60% chance it would help or doing a LSH hysterectomy, I am leaning toward the LSH, I had 75-80% odds for the HerOption 60% doesn't sound good enough to me. My fibriod that is displacing the lining is growing. Any suggestions or advice would be great.

Thanks
D

decision to make

Hi Yayimshrinking,

I had a LSH for two large fibroids...and I am still very glad I was a candidate for the surgery type. For me, my LSH was a good option.

I had my LSH at an outpatient facility. Had surgery at 7:30 AM and I went home at 6:00 PM. Some LSH ladies stay overnight. I did several days of R & R...watching T.V., going on the internet and resting. I went back to work at 2 weeks with my Dr's okay. Some LSH ladies take more time off. I got a greenlight for sex and the gym at 6 weeks.

In the end...just do what is *best* for you.

Sending best wishes~

decision to make

Hi Yayimshrinking,

My story is very similar to yours. 1st ablation failed due to Novasure was not large enough to work in my oversized uterus plus excessive tissue during the D & C.. 2nd ablation was completed but due to oversized uterus and excessive endometrial lining has appeared to be almost useless with almost no change in my mensus(clotting is minimized now so that was a positive). I too tried 2 months of Lupron between "ablation 1" and ablation 2 to minimize tissues and that also did not work. I see my surgical reports and read prolapsed uterus level II and cystocele and rectocele both grade I.
I know we are all different and our lives are different but I am beginning to believe that sometimes the answer is right there in front of us. When multiple attempts are made to combat health issues and the failures mount up, maybe that LSH is a great option. The thought of anything Laparoscopic rings much more positive than abdominal in my mind. In any case, trust your feelings. Do more research if that is what it takes to educate and believe you are making the best decision for you. Does waiting and Fibroid growth pose further problems that could complicate the surgery options if you choose to wait on the LSH? What ever decision you make, commit to your decision and believe this is your best option. Take the time you need to commit to your decision.
I wish you luck
