Is it true hormones really ok if ovaries left in place?

I had my TAH at the age of 44 and my doctor at Mayo told me I had at least 10 years of good ovarian function left, so if the ovaries were healthy it was a good idea to keep them. And, as has been said before, the ovaries do not shut down at menopause -- they just produce hormones at lower levels.

Some women do have trouble with ovaries "sleeping" or even shutting down completely after hysterectomy but in my case, there was not even a short nap, and so far they are still functioning well. (I can tell because I still get the ovulation twinges I've always gotten.)
