13 days post op after TAH

Hi everyone, I hope everyone is feeling better and recovering.

Tomorrow I go to get the last of my staples removed. The only pain I am having right now is right around my bellybutton. Seems like that is common.

I have reduced the amount of pain medicine I am taking. I took half of a percocet at 8:00 pm I think I might have to take another before long because of the bellybutton pain.

The area around my staples is red and flaky is that normal for staples? I have never had them before. I am going to ask the Dr tomorrow if I can put some Neosporin or something on the incision.

I still have what I call weak spells where I really feel like I been ran over. Its hard to pace myself and not over do it.

When I go to the Dr tomorrow will only be the 3rd time I have left the house. I am going to try to go to the video store if my DH allows me too lol. He keeps telling me I am trying to do too much.

Take care,
Tara

Re: 13 days post op after TAH

Hi Tara,

Glad to hear that you are doing well. I have had staples with a prev. operation and my skin did get a bit flaky as well. As long as it is not hot and swollen you should be ok. Once they come out it will feel much better. ask the doctor for something that you can put on it to keep infection away.
My DH is the same. Since march 15 I have been "let out" twice". This morning was my second time and yes even after just 1 hour or less about, I wanted to go home for a rest. I know how you feel and even though on the mend it is very easy to overdo it. Take it easy while you can, small steps , remember this time last week and what it was like for me I was in bed a lot, this time next week we will be able to do more.( and hopefully even go for a visit to the shops

Re: 13 days post op after TAH

Sandra,
Thank you for replying. I am glad you are doing well too. I do feel alot better now that the staples are gone.
I am a little weak today from the trip to the Dr yesterday so my Dh wouldnt let me go anywhere today even for a ride in the car lol. I have serious cabin fever going on so I am going to spend some time outside in the sun tomorrow.

Take care,
Tara

Re: 13 days post op after TAH

Hi - I'm about 15 days post op TAH/BSO. I got my staples out before I left surgery - so must be different doc preference. I'm glad I got them out though - had previous surgery where they stayed longer & got itchy as you noted. Everything does tire me out too - went to Target for about 30 minutes and it's only 5 min. away & i was exhausted.
Best of luck to you & healing.
Your doc is right about heat/ redness for incision - just watch for that. I got infected incision after gall bladder surgery no fun!

Re: 13 days post op after TAH

Tara,

I had surgery the same day as you. Two nights ago, I felt "fit as a fiddle" and decided to go to the grocery store with my husband and son. Felt like a million bucks -- until we got to the end of the second aisle. I thought I was going to collapse from exhaustion. I guess our mind heals faster than our bodies .

I didn't have any skin issues around the staples, but everybody reacts differently. I did feel better after the staples were removed and the doctor applied "steri strips" which are now coming off one-by-one as we speak.

Take care, and try not to overdo it.

Best wishes in your recovery.

Thanks so much for replying. It is really great to talk to someone that had a TAH on the same day. Im sorry your trip to the store ended up like that. Thats how I am afraid I would be too. I think I had my first bout of insomnia last night couldnt get to sleep till 430 this morning.

I hope you are doing well,
Take care,
Tara

Hi there thanks for replying, I guess going to the store is a really bad idea right now lol. I hope you continue to do well and feel better everyday.

Tara
