Advice for hospital from frustrated patient

On a scale from 1-10, 10 being the worst, I give my stay a
9. For as much homework as I did ahead of time, I didn't anticipate so many issues out of my control coming up after I checked in until I was released. You know the saying, you can't pick your relatives? Well you can't pick your staff either. Must have been a full moon? I hope to share some advice as days progress, right now, just a great piece of advice, take a fiber bar with you!!!!!!!

I suggest FIBERONE. I was supposed to be released on the second day, but because I didn't pass gas, i was held overnight. No one told me I had to do this before I could be released, I had paperwork that told me what was expected, etc. to be released, that wasn't on there, I again just went over it. So I waited expecting to go home and she said, "well, doc is very picky about this, some aren't, but if you can't pass gas, you can't leave until you do." I did have good bowel sounds (lots of gurgles) so I'm not sure why that wasn't enough. If I had known, there were many things I could have done. I immediately started carbonated pop, drank HOT liquids, used a heating pad, all the things I try at home. Part of the problem is they didn't have me walk once all day, I was in the room from 10:30 a.m. all day and all that night, not walked once. Later a charge nurse told me I could have, I think nurses just don't want to walk people as I didn't have someone in my room and it would have been up to them? They said first day is danging feet off the bed. I asked to walk even. I think the hospital left a lot to be desired. I had actually emptied my colon 2 times in 3 days (the first I had a bug of some sort) so I knew I was empty, wasn't constipated at all.

Had someone bring me a fiberone bar which is notorious for passing gas. I took the fiber bar, 1/2 before bedtime, then rest upon waking. Within 30 minutes, music to my ears!
Unfortunately, that was 6:30 a.m. I couldn't get a dr. in until 3 pm to release me. The waiting was the worse, they told me I could even get dressed then watched the clock for hours.

Re: Advice for hospital from frustrated patient

I think insurance company would have overnighted me a fiber bar in place of staying an extra 24 hours with meds given by hospital.
