2 1/2 wks post op and I am still in terrible pain. Am I alone?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. Due to 3 previous cesarians there were a lot of adhesions so I needed bladder repair and went home with a foley catheter (now out-thank goodness!) Developed a horrible head to toe rash one week post op and ended up in the ER where they shot me full of steroids, benadryl and epinephrine. Needless to say, it's been a tough road. I thought by now I would not feel like I need pain medication, but if I stand up for more than 15 minutes, I feel like my groin area is on fire. I can't find a comfortable position on the couch. Can't find a comfortable position...period. When will I start to feel some relief? Is this normal?

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I didn't have additional repairs etc. but wanted to say you should contact your Dr. and ask him or her as to what level of pain you should be experiencing at this post op period. Are you running a fever or anything? If so you might want to seek medical attention faster! Take care and hope you find some pain relief soon! ((HUGS))

I wonder whether the pain you are feeling is neuropathic. My doctor told me that because the surgeon moves everything in order to remove the uterus some nerves react to the trauma and give rise to a very specific pain. When it happened to me I had a burning searing pain in my left groin and into my leg. Ordinary pain relief (including strong prescription drugs)did not work. They made me groggy but still in pain. This pain was positional, I got it when I went to bed and lay out stretched and then it was agony to get out of bed but once up it stopped. You have also described positional pain. I am being treated with amytriptyline which has been really effective but took 5-7 days to take effect. Amytripyline is an anti depressant but it has other properties such as reducing neuropathic pain and also muscular pain. I've heard of quite a number of people who are now being treated with it. my sister has spondalosis and she is prescribed it. My advice is to talk to your doctor because like you I thought that it was pain that everyone had and I just had to accept it but the medics do not want you to be in pain as it impedes your mobility. I hope you get the help you need and that your pain is short lived. God bless
