5 days post hysterectomy: very uncomfortable

First post. I wanted to introduce myself. I had my hysterectomy 5 days ago. The pain is starting to ease up but I am still VERY uncomfortable. I had my first bowel movement tonight, so that helped a lot.

I noticed a huge bruise had developed on my stomach. I guess that's normal?

I am mainly just really tired. I've tried to rest as much as possible. I have a 1 year old son, but we are staying with my mom and she is doing most of the work with him.

I did have a little bleeding from my incision the first day home. That scared me, but it stopped after applying pressure.

Looking forward to reading through the forums more and getting more advice!

Re: 5 days post op

Welcome to the other side and this wonderful community!
So glad to read that you have some help..... it is important to take it easy and rest along with staying on top of your pain.
I didn't have any bruises but I am sure that others sisters will add to your thread.

Take care

Re: 5 days post op

We are very glad to have you join us! You're early post op so your priorities are resting, drinking lots of water, eating well and walking as tolerated. Take stool softeners for a while to help with BMs, nap when you need to and leave the housework. Do your best to get comfortable; strategically placed pillows helped me. And take your pain meds to stay ahead of the pain.

Here is the link to your post op Recovery Thread. This is your place to post updates and share your progress with women who had surgery the same week as you. It's really helpful to find out what is "normal" as you recover and you can give/get support and hugs as you heal.

Wishing you a quick and uneventful recovery!

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy: very uncomfortable

My biggest mistake was not accepting the help that was offered to me. Make sure you rest and take any and all help you can especially with any household things that need to be done. Your body is pushing its resources into recovery and it does not care what else is going on around you. Try not to sneeze or cough and avoid laughing if it hurts too much like mine still does 3 weeks post op. Catch up on reading, your favorite tv shows or movies and nap like a lazy cat as often as you feel the need. Your body will thank you. I found an ice pack on my incisions helped with the pain and also the "healing itches". Don't be afraid to let others PAMPER you. Be a princess and thank them with a smile. Best wishes!

Yes, bruising is common. Listen to your body, rest and accept help for at least the first couple weeks.
