Still not sure if my bladder is working right post hysterectomy

Hi everybody. In addition to Hysterectomy, i also had a sling place on bladder. It took a few days for my bladder to work again after surgery. Had to wear a catheter home from hospital and I hated it. Finally got it taken off after 5 days. Urinating now, seems different. A steady stream (slow though) then it feels like I'm done, but after sitting for a few more seconds a lighter second stream happens.
Sometimes, it doesn't feel like I'm totally empty. In the mornings, I feel like I should have a very long stream like I did before the surgery, but now, sometimes very little comes out. Is there something wrong with my bladder? Does it get better? anyone else have issues? I'm planning to fly to NYC for a few days and wondering if it's too soon....I'm almost 4 weeks post op.
Sorry for the many questions! Thank you!

I also had a sling, I was able to urinate before coming home, but I also have similar stream issues. I am 7 days post op and today felt like my stream was stronger. I was told that my anatomy is completely different now and it takes time for things to get settled. They should check to make sure you are emptying all the way at one of your post op appt.

Re: Still not sure if my bladder is working right

It's good that you were able to go home without a catheter!

Thank you for the reply. I am still waiting for my Doc to call me back before I purchase our plane tickets. I'm hoping it will be no problem as I am feeling ok. I went out with family yesterday to a museum/ botanical gardens and walked around for about 3 hours with breaks in between every 1/2 hour or so to sit down. It was fun, I was definitely tired when I got home, but it wasn't too bad and there was no pain. Just some fatigue and a tiny bit of cramping when I was going too fast.

Anyways, thanks again for responding. Good luck with your recovery!

I had a sling also. Took about 6 weeks before I had a strong stream, but I still wait a few seconds and there's usually a bit left.

Re: Still not sure if my bladder is working right post hysterectomy

UPDATE: My doc said no problem on flying at this point so I'm all set for a week away. I'm feeling better for sure, but still kind of up and down as far as my mood & energy. It's kinda weird. It must have something to do with my hormones. ugh. Hopefully after my 8 week appt I can ask the doctor about something to help with that.
Thank you to all who responded!

Re: Still not sure if my bladder is working right post hysterectomy

I was all set to have the bladder sling, but my doc sent me to a specialist who did some bladder tests first. The sling only helps with 1 of the 4 types of urinary incontinence issues, according to her (different meds for the others). Well, I apparently have 3 of those issues, so the docs said to NOT do the sling for now, then will re-test again in a few months and determine my next steps. Hopefully meds will help enough to not be an issue needing the sling any longer, the less invasive the better!

So, if you have not had the testings done before, I strongly urge you to talk to your doctor about doing it, so that you can work on what you need to in order to have a "normal" bladder life again. ;-)
