Should I go home after surgery
I need advice. My surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday. I work on Monday and will do the dreaded bowel prep on Tuesday. We are in the middle of remodeling our house and everthing has been torn apart since September. I had it pretty much cleaned up last night and thougth if I worked on it over the weekend it would be OK for me to come home to. Today the workers came and put in new windows. They are nice, but there is dust and dirt through my entire house again. My DH is planning on having them come to work while I am in the hospital. I don't think I can come home to this house. The dirt and dust are going to drive me crazy. I am thinking of reserving a hotel room to recover in. I'll have a TV, maid service and if I get hungry I can order room service. It is expensive but may be worth it. Any advice from anyone?

Why not get a merry maid service to clean your house. Same money and you have additional benefit. A hotel is cold. I think I would feel like a prisoner. Cab drivers will do pick ups for food if you want.
What kind of work are you having done? They put windows in the house? Are they painting? I don't know if I would want strangers in my house when I was not up to par. Can you reshedule the surgery?
Maybe you could have a careworker stay with you and work out your needs and clean as well.

Should I go home after surgery
Thank you for your reply bookfairy. I am also feeling that a hotel would be too cold. MY DH is strongly opposed to a cleaning service. I am wondering if there is somewhere that does short term care that I could go to. Maybe I should think about cancelling the surgery. I think I am trying to handle too much right now.

Should I go home after surgery
your dh should really think of your well being, not his own problems and his insecurities about having a cleaning person. This is YOUR HEALTH, and if you need surgery you need to do what is best for you. I think staying in a hotel or any place other than home would not be comfortable. Perhaps you should remind him this is to keep you healthy, after all that is much more important that remodeling for the moment. You will be back to feeling well in no time.
Good luck and we are all thinking of you

I would try and insist that your husband doesn't do any aditional work while your in the hospital, hire a maid to do a good cleaning and recop at home. If he really is apposed to a maid, then perhaps a very good friend or relative will give the place a good once over before you come home. If not, why not check into a Bed and Breakfast? Perhaps the more personal touch a B&B offers might be good, have friends or hubby bring lunch, then order dinner in from your favorite delivery place. It would be more personal then a hotel.
I personally wouldn't reschedule, the wait is driving me crazy and I wish it were happening sooner. Do what is best for you, reschedule if you truly believe it is in your best health and interest.

Should I go home after surgery
Thank you for all of your suggestions. I agreee I can't cancel this surgery. I talked to my DH and he is understanding it better now. He agreed not to work on the house for the next couple of weeks and helped me to clean it up. It is not perfect, but it will be much more comfortable at home. I go to the castle tomorrow. I drank my magnesium citrate about 3 hours ago and am still waiting for something to happen. I guess it will soon. I am just trying to focus on what is most important now. After being so stressed out all week, now that it is the day before I actually feel calmer. I just want to get it over with. Good luck with your journeys. Having your support has been so helpful!
