5 Weeks Post-hysterectomy and Having Urinary Twinges/Pain

I am 5 weeks post-op from a LAVH due to uterine fibroids. I was able to keep my ovaries, and I am not having any issues except for urethral pain/twinges. 10 days after surgery, I developed a urinary tract infection, but the symptoms have not gone away. My doctor performed a retention study, as well as a CT scan. There are no retention issues, and the CT scan showed that everything is fine structurally. She even collected urine from a catheter, and there is no infection present.

It feels like "needles" in my urethra with twinges of pain, but I don't have any pain when urinating or urgency. I explained to my doctor that it feels like a UTI coming on, but she thinks it is just normal healing and will resolve eventually. I am just frustrated because some days it feels like it is improving, but then it gets worse again.

I struggled for about a year with heavy pain and bleeding so it is frustrating to have another issue to deal with. I see my doctor in about a week for my post-op appointment. Any other sisters deal with this? It seems like bladder issues are very common after this surgery.

Re: 5 Weeks Post-Op and Having Urinary Twinges/Pain

I have had bladder issues as well since having the OP. I did get a bladder infection at one week post op but it cleared and i felt better for a few days, then the pressure feeling is back. I am not having the same exact pains you are but mine is a very heavy pressure and burning pain when my bladder is almost full. Then when i go to the bathroom i will empty or so i think, and when i wipe i will soak the tissue. Its like i am not emptying all the way, then i wipe and it finishes emptying.

The only thing that has helped is when i was on urogesics (spelling?) for the bladder infection. I could void perfectly with no issues as long as one of those was in my system. Alas i am out of those and hesitant to ask for more since my insurance does not cover them and they cost me $50 a bottle. With my income right now that is alot to pay just to be able to pee correctly without pain. My doc thinks this will clear up and is just my body adjusting after the OP, i sincerely hope that both of our docs are right and it goes away soon!!
