Surgery Over -- Feeling Great!

My surgery (LSH) was on Monday, June 18th, at 7:30 am. Everything went well but I experienced severe nausea throughout the day and was unable to hold even a sip of water down. UGH! I stayed overnight and woke up the next morning without nausea. The catheter was removed at 6 am, without any discomfort. I was allowed to wash up and only felt mild to moderate abdominal pain when up and moving around. I began urinating soon after the catheter came out . I tolerated breakfast and lunch well and was released from the hospital at 1 pm.

I've done a lot of resting since being home. I have three small incisions...one in the navel, and one a few inches to the right and to the left of the navel. Sitting is painful...feels like everything is pressing down on my vagina. Gas pains are occasional but pretty painful. Today is Friday, I took a stool softener on Wednesday afternoon and had my first (and only) bowel movement to date on Thursday morning. To my surprise and appreciation (lol) it was easy and pain/discomfort free.--THANK GOD! There was a very slight discharge the first day but nothing now.

My doctor suggested short walks and lots of rest. No lifting, driving, and nothing in the vagina-not even water from a bath. My follow up is Monday, June 25th.

I haven't had problems with hot flashes or anything. My ovaries and cervix are still in.

Problems have been:
*occasional gas pains (OUCH)
*pain when sitting
*Pain when laughing (OUCH),
*I've been having coughing spells and coughing causes sooo much pain (OUCH, OUCH, OUCH)
**Holding a pillow against my abdomen helped to decrease the pain when laughing, coughing, or sneezing (BIG OUCH)

Doc called on Wednesday to see how I was doing. (That was nice.) He said my uterus was 300 grams...three times the size it should have been.

All in all, I feel great. I was so nervous leading up to the surgery but it hasn't been a bad or hard ordeal at all.

Thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences and the best to those who are newly recovering or yet to have the surgery. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Blessings,

Lee
