Thanks for being here!

Thank you all for responding to my post! Being new to the site I think I have found just where I need to be! You all have been wonderful about making me feel like I am indeed NOT alone in this after all. Don't get me wrong, I couldnt ask for a better husband (all of 6 months)! He is just as scared as I am, but his biggest concern is my trying to do to much too soon. He knows that I have a tendency to be very independent and is concerned that I will have a set back in my recovery.

Something that I do have going for me is the fact it is not cancerous! As far as a second opinion, you know I think I was in such shock I didnt even think about getting one. And I really dont mind the idea of having the hyst, its just the surprise of it all!

I look forward to not having the numerous periods that I was having. Being a newlywed it really was a problem, heck, I even started the day of our wedding! But as he told me when I found out about the surgery......Honey, I knew I wasnt marrying a young woman and this is something that can be expected at our age (I am 44 he is 48).

We both had been divorced 10 yrs and this marriage has been a god send to us both. I think about how different this all would be for me if it had happened before I had him to lean on! I am truly blessed to have him here beside me and giving me all the love he has to give!

If we survive this we will survive anything!

Love and hugs to you all for your kind words of advice and support.

Am I Alone?

Hi!
It sounds like you have done a lot of thinking since you first posted, but I thougt I would put in my two cents!

If it isn't cancer, you probably don't have to be in such a hurry. Also, isn't your insurance making you get a 2nd opinion? Even after years of female problems, mine wanted one.

Endo can SOMETIMES be seen by sonogram, it can show up as bright spots. But that only means it MIGHT be endo there. It can only be confirmed by looking inside surgically.

This is a great place to learn about all the hyster related issues, but remember is endo is the problem that the hyster only helps in about 30% of cases. You also need to be sure that the Doc is going to excise all the endo he finds and talk about treatment after to keep it from returning. BC pills, Lupron or whatever.

One good place to get more info it the Endometriosis Assn. You can find them online at www.EndometriosisAssn.org

Best wishes!

Am I Alone?

Smoothie, a belated welcome to Hyster Sisters. This site is wonderful Lots of women who are going through the same thing we are or have already gone through it and willing to share their experience. It's been a God send for me through this whole experience.

I'm 44 too, and my dh is 47, so we are similar in that aspect. While it's nice to have lead time, too much lead time can lead to even more anxiety: that's what happenned to me - I was on the pre-op board for 3 months before I headed to the castle,

That said, I hope you DO find all the information you need to get ready for your trip to the castle. On the Hyster Sisters home page, there is a pull-down menu: Pre-op Hysterectomy Hints. There are several articles that would help you with deciding what to bring to the castle and what to ask the doctor.

Good luck, will be thinking of you,
