6 week visit...Good...but no help w/insomnia
Man, you ladies and I had the same night last night. I took the Melatonin and it worked until 2:30am. I have trouble falling asleep so this was good, but at 2:30 started having night sweats, cold, hot, cold hot. Took a Tylenol PM and it finally kicked in about 3:30, but not a good sleep more cold, hot, cold, hot. I'm anxious to see my FSH results. Doc said, I'm only 39 and couldn't possibly be in menopause and swore again he didn't touch my ovaries. I know that but... I guess he doesn't read this site much. Ha ha. Primary care doc called in Ambien. Phew. Will let you know how it goes tonight. Was able to work out today at the gym for the first time in 6 weeks so hopefully the Ambien/workout combo will knock me out.
Sweet dreams ladies. Hope you all have a better night's sleep tonight.
Thanks for everything,
Tara

Ambien did the trick. Slept from 11:30pm to 6:00am. Finally!!! Doc only gave me 20 of them though so I will alternate with the melatonin which was a more relaxing sleep even though it was short. Anyone else?? How was your night?

6 week visit...Good...but no help w/insomnia
Hey Ms Cali! At 40 my hormone levels were at menopausal levels. Things did not get that way overnight. Followup on the labs. I took low dose BC pills for 9 years for menopausal symptoms. I finally stopped at 49 and was ok.
I am trying the melatonin for 2nd night tonight. If it does not working I am calling for Ambien (I have tried 1 and it worked for me) My Dr is just exhausting all the more natural things before he will give me RX>
Hope tonight is good too. I have to go to an 11 yr olds choir performance. I wil probably sleep then and ruin my nights sleep!

Kathiem,
What tests did you run to find out? Was it only FSH? This doc only did FSH. My last doc tested my estrogen and progesterone levels about 3 years ago and my estrogen was 40 and my progesterone was .5. Way below normal on the prog. On the scale she was using it was supposed to be at least a 2. FSH was taken last year and was normal. Something like 3 or 5. We shall see this time around. I will call tomorrow.
Glad to hear the melatonin is working for you!! Hooray!! I liked the way it made me feel like I was swirling, but not druggy. I know herbs take a while to build up in the system before they work well so it's good you are giving it a good trial. I will use it this weekend because my husband and I will be doing some drinking for our anniversary. We are going to spend the night in a hotel and I don't want to take the Ambien with that. Very excited about that.
Good sleeping to you Kathiem and all of you sleepless sisters,
Tara

Tara...Oh, your weekend sounds so wonderful. I am excited for you two! Hope you have a blast!
As for the tests. it was so long ago I don't remember details but my Dr kind of ran them to humor me and he was very shocked. I think he said there were 2 hormones and both were are total menopausal levels. The BC pills kept me sane throughout my 40's! I, for some lucky reason, do not look my age and even now at 52 my own surgeon keeps forgetting that I have already gotten through that. I had to take my 2 granddaughters (18 mo and 7 mo to my preop and he asked me if they were mine...hello?) The symptoms I had had when it all started were fatique, night sweats , and the biggest one was just wanting to rip everyone's head off for NO reason.(not very nice) In the last 10 days I have begun to feel like that again and I wonder if it is from the loss of whatever my one functioning ovary was doing! I just feel evil sometimes.
As for the melatonin...i did not know it takes herbs time to be beneficial. I know what you mean about the swirly feeling. I kind of liked that. The Valerian root gave me strange and VIVID dreams. I woke up mad over a dream and could not go back to sleep. I will keep trying it and give it a chance.
It is so nice to be able to get other view points here! Thank you. Get the tests and follow up because I am an example of early menopause and the hormones really helped me survive~ I am glad my Dr thought of it...I would not have.
Happy Anniversary. ..Hope you and DH get to make up for lost timebut be careful!!!! Fragile insides!

When I was having problems staying asleep, I opted to take a single dose of NYQUIL when I went to bed and I would sleep for about 7 hours.
Increase your fresh turkey intake. Most grocers/butchers will sell parts so you don't have to roast a whole turkey every week but use ground turkey instead of ground beef. cook a turkey breast instead of chicken breast. The triptophan enzyme is a natural sedative.
Hope you have sweet dreams soon,
Autumn

Kathiem,
Thanks for the good wishes about my weekend. I'm very excited!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your symptoms. It ***** to be having these hormonal fluxes or whatever the heck they are. I had horrible mood swings in my 20's and early 30's. When I stopped dieting things got a lot better, but now I'm fat. Can't win. Ha ha. OK, I've got a weird one for you. Called about my FSH level today. Doctor won't be in until Dec 5th?? Anyway had the sec. fax my results so I could see them. Turns out my FSH was very very low. Doc just called a second ago and they are going to run a estrogen test on the blood already there. We'll see what's going on. So weird. A low FSH can mean no ovarian function either. Hormones are so odd.
Autum,
Here's to too much turkey next week!! MMMMM. I'm going to eat lots. Maybe I'll drop like a fly at night after that. Thanks for the tip!

I have now had the experience of trying to exist of 2 hours of sleep- dealing with 3 young ones, a dh and a dog! Oh, I'm not my sunny happy self, but I'm still here. Dh is going to get Tylenol pm b/c I figure since I'm still hurting, taking a pain pill and going to sleep seems like a fine idea. It is amazing how much scrapbooking one can get done in the hours of 1-4 am!

Tara...it will be interesting to see what your levels show. I am not my usual cheerful self at all. Lack of sleep has made me very touchy as my DH pointed out tonight! Here is to the elavil working!
