5 days post laparoscopic hysterectomy: Should I be resting or should I be moving on to my normal routine?

Hello, I had my surgery this last Tuesday, October 28th. It was laproscopic and I just had the uterus removed. I was up immediately after to try and rid myself of the gas. I was showered by that evening and the
catheter was removed. I was home the next morning and able to walk around just fine. I've been going up and down the stairs to use the bathroom, and doing some light chores. I'm feeling guilty for resting since it doesn't appear that I've had any surgery. I haven't had any spotting and aside from gas and bloating I feel okay. Should I be resting or should I be moving on to my normal routine? Also, compared to the cramps I used to suffer this is a cake walk. I don't want to overdo it, but I don't want to be too lazy either. Confused.

Re: Laproscopic Only

Stay within your lifting and activity restrictions but there is no reason to stay in bed if you don't feel like it. Rest when needed and don't put yourself into a situation where you can overdo it. Remember resting after surgery is not laziness. Your body needs to recover and you've certainly earned that rest.

Re: Laproscopic Only

So, when you say only the uterus, you mean you still have your cervix?

That us essentially what I had done. I am walking, this last week almost 15 miles in the second post op week. I had my post op check on day 12 and I am cleared for what ever I find comfortable except heavy lifting.

You are still only 5 days. I felt not bad after the 6th day, and notably almost baseline by the 10th day.

Just gradually increase your activity and pay close attention to the feedback signals from your body. And follow your body and stop with any discomfort or fatigue.
But no need for guilt. You still are recovering from surgery!! By the second week I was actually able to enjoy being off work in addition to recovering!

And of course follow any directions given to you by your doc!
