Super Swelly Belly (10 wks post op)

Feeling almost "normal" again, except that by the end of the day, my belly is so swollen! I am still wearing a belly binder all day too. Still some soreness if I sit too long. Anyone else still having swelly belly issues?

Re: Super Swelly Belly (10 wks post op)

Don't want to discourage you.... but it might last longer still!!

I had a TAH-BSO (all the "bits") with a 17 cm vertical incision, and it was about 7-8 months before I gradually lost the swelly belly (most of the time) and was able to wear my old clothes comfortably. So, I really needed a new wardrobe for that period.
But, it varies very much from person to person how long it takes. I think it stands to reason that the more invasive the surgery, the longer the inflammation that causes the swelly belly will last.
The day's activity, even if you don't overdo it, causes the gradual swelling, just like it would be if you had a sprained ankle and walked around on it.
But we have to get back to normal activity after a few weeks, and lying around isn't good for us, so you just have to put up with the swelly belly till you have healed enough, and it requires a lot of patience! And trust, that it WILL go!!

Thank you for your reply - your explanation makes perfect sense! (and I guess time flies when your having fun or I forgot how to count! ...'cause it'll really only be 9 wks post op on Monday.) Anyway, not sure when I'll be able to wear my jeans again

Stretch pants, oversized shirts, and boots are a good Fall style. I'm already sporting the stretch pants. Ha!
